    Default 1jz Alternator Help

    Help guys, need your thoughts

    On the alternator there is one plug with three wires and the really thick cable attached.

    Yesterday I was changing my upper and lower radiator hose when I accidently knocked the plug with three wires. Two of the wires came out of the plug. So I plugged them back in. A few hours later car wouldn’t start. Battery was dead

    Charged the battery up and turned it over. Started fine, nothing seemed to short circuit. Applied a multimeter to the battery while still on. Revved her up and the volts increased so I assume the alternator is working correctly. this morning came out and battery is dead again

    Is it possible that I put the two wires back in the plug incorrectly and now its draining the battery some how? Of maybe the battery was just due. The battery didn’t seem to have any problems leading up to yesterday.

    Your thoughts would be most appreciated?

    Not sure if the charge light still works, I've never seen it come on.

    I might be wrong but if you connected either +12v or Ign wire to charge light connector on the alternator, the answer is yes it will drain your battery when your engine is off.

    Here is what the pinout is meant to be....

    Common wire colours are...

    S=White
    L=Yellow-Green
    IGN=Yellow

    More detail in this doc if you are interested

    Might help you work out why the charge light doesn't come on etc

    I've got the pin out for the flat plug at home also if you can't find it elsewhere

    Can I please get a copy of that 3 wire pinout for the alternator plug? I'm in the middle of wiring up my 2J alternator plug to a 1J and need to know which wires to hook up correctly. Thanks
