Default 1989 3.2L Quad Cam V8 Toyota Crown rear suspension question

I'm looking at purchasing a 1989 3.2L Quad Cam V8 Toyota Crown and am told the rear shocks need replacing although its only done 90,000 klms. Does anyone know if its staright forward for the average Joe to replace and can anyone suggest where could I find some pictures of the shock assemblies and was the shock failure a problem with this model, this Crown does'nt have a tow bar and since the intereior is 9.5/10 and the boot is 9/10 I doubt its been overloaded .

Hi mate, the most frequent shock failure on the UZS131 and MS137 is the left hand rear. The age of the rubber is the primary cause.

If you can change a standard shock absorber, you can change the airbag struts on a Crown. However that being said, a guy in Vic purchased one of these Crowns with a similar rear end problem. He fitted new air bags to the rear, but could not get the thing sorted. It was eventually sold for about $3,000.00 and parted out.

'Tis actually a 4 litre quad cam V8 with 32 valves, dumb ass dealers.

The window sticker price is quite good on that car, but with unknown problems in the air department it is a big ask. As with all car dealers, flash a wad of cash, and you will drive the car away, if you are willing to take the risk.

    cheers Chuck.

Thanks guys I've decided not to purchase because of the suspension but will continue to look for a front cut for a 75 MS85 conversion.
