    Default Mobile version of forums

I have activated the vbulletin mobile theme ( in default colour for the time being)

Please try in you various mobile devices and let me know of any issues.

I note that there may be issues in blackberry OS5 unless you use safari.

It also appears that that "full site" button to revert to full site isn't working for me in iphone.

    Cheers
    Simon

OK I think I have solved the "Full site" Button option.

I'd like feedback on how this works with various phones / phone software.

If you post a comment, can you add the phone type and software type.

    Cheers

Works reasonably well. The big annoyance is that all the main forums are all top level forums of their own. Really they all need to be a subforum of a container "Toymods Forum" or something similar so you dont get the big bars inbetween the forums.

The other annoying bit is that there isnt a "Go to new post" button. Some mobile themes have this linked to the left most "new post" icon.

Yeah the go to first new post is somthing I noticed as well. I'll ask the question on that one.

Grouping would be good, but Y'all have to live with the bars for a bit.

I'd also like any comments in comparison to Tapatalk as well.

It's better than Tapatalk IMO, and it doesn't ask if you want to learn how to use it everytime you go into it like Tapatalk does...

really bogged down when using it at home on wifi this morning.... actually ran slower than the forums normally do in full site mode.
It seems to "load" a lot with a little loading icon, rather than just bring up the page progressively like in full site mode.

Slower to load pages, but definitely easier to read a thread.
jump-to latest post in a thread definitely needs to be added.

EDIT: just noticed this.... when you go into a section, such as "non car discussion", it's not very clear how to get back to the main forums page - you have to click the funny icon jsut to the left of the search icon at the absolute top right of the page, which seems to take you to some other kind of home page (which has icons for home, forums, albums, profile, friends, notifications, messages) , then click on forums, and then you are at the forums home page. Perhaps this is the "USER CP" button??

DOUBLE EDIT: a bit of testing here at work using normal 3G network and it seems to work OK speed wise. It is actually working just as fast as my Wifi at home..... but the full site mode on my wifi at home is definitely faster than mobile version on wifi. Perhaps there is extra processing required to make the mobile version work??

I have found it marginally slower on my Iphone 3GS (4.2.1) as Witzl mentioned it appears to load all of the content then display it rather that load it progressively. but the difference so far is smallish

Cool - great to see this active!

Phone is LG GT450 (Android 1.6) - fairly long load times and sluggish behavior (could be phone and local wifi net but other mobile-specific sites run a lot faster). No other apps running.

The mini icon (at right of each listing) should be a 'go to last post' link, but it seems to select the entire entry and go to the first post.

Maybe it's loading a tonne of javascript for the first view of each template (and then assuming the local client will cache that data)? When APN updated all it's newspaper sites (e.g. The Chronicle up here), they did that so the first experiences of each newspaper was painfully slow as the browser churned thru anywhere up to 500kb of data for the home page.

Will try with Opera (10 beta) on same phone later when battery is healthy.

Well mine appears to be losing it as I recieve a screen full of white with basic blue links and black text. However sometimes it chooses to agree and shows the new sleek layout so I guess it's just struggling with cookies or something. Definitely functional though at the very least, great work putting it all together! Phone runs on Android and is a Garmin NuviFone A50, so I never expect great things as it is pretty vague in terms of support.

i gave up after trying it with Opera. very slow, would confuse dragging with selecting links (kept opening links when trying to scroll), lots of large elements hogging screen realestate. gone back to full site and is much faster and easier to navigate.

The mobile version is currently Blue and White...

If you're seeing the "sleek" layout, then I'd say you're viewing the full version of the site.
