Default [Melb] Bigport 4A-GE Plenum cut+shut

I have myself a AE86 with a bigport AE82 engine. The plenum for this obviously points at my firewall. I'm after suggestions on good places to get the plenum cut and shut so that the throttle body is on the other side. I'd rather not get ripped off, but I'd also rather not have a really dodgy job done, so priced somewhere in the middle would be good.

If anyone wants to warn me off going cut and shut, feel free to do so and explain why.

I might also be interested in a JDM RWD bigport plenum, depending on price.

    Cheers.

    P.S. I did search, couldn't find anything.

Hey Nim, the few RWD 4age conversions i've done, I have always found it easier to get the JDM manifold. They seem to sell for between $150 - $200.. That seems roughly the same going price for a cut n shut manifold.

Cant recommend anyone in Vic to do the work sorry..

    Cheers

$200 just to have a manifold cut n shut? That's kinda insane.

No, it is kinda insane, when you can get a RWD plenum for the same price as converting a non RWD plenum. Although I imagine I am gonna have some difficulty finding a RWD plenum.

Just rang Toyospares, and they have cut n shuts for ~$150. They wont cut n shut my manifold though, so that's $150 for a whole new cut n shut plenum.

Either that or I need to find someone who does 'Tig' (is that right?) welding (alloy welding), cut it myself and then get them to re-attach each end.

Anyone know of a parts importer for JDM RWD plenums so I can compare prices?

i know what you mean, but an impoter would make more money seeling it than someone that cuts and shuts it!
ring around the importers, shouldnt be to hard to find one.

Yeah, I'm finding the search function pretty useless. We need a wiki or something. That'd be awesome.

Joe from GNC Engineering in Eltham (9431 2212, I think) has done most of my alloy welding. I've been happy with him.

I'd strongly advise cutting and making the parts yourself and just getting him to reweld it.

i am a tig welder, but i am in nsw.
a fab shop would have to charge $200 for the time it takes to stuff around with it.
a fabricator like myself who would do it in their spare time would probably charge $100.

i dont know if im allowed to post a pic but here is one i did on a rb30e plenum converting it from side feed to front feed.

    Did you try ae86dc?

    http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au

I have seen the JDM manifold on there before. Failing that either call up some importers. Even maybe some toymods affiliated ones or wait it out for one to pop up.

just unbolt the old t/b get a big welshplug stick it in the hole and block up the small top hole engine side.
cut the other side of the plenum off, get a nice thick ally plate say 4-5mm thick, shape it thread it and cut the hole out then just get an ally welder to weld it on.
cant cost more than 100 bux.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
