Default Disc rotors and wheel spacers on 1992 Hilux

On my hilux I need to put wheel spacers to eliminate the scrubbing as I turn but I'm unsure of how the work/put them on and what brands or metal are best?
And my disc need to be machine but they seem to be abit thin so I was thinking about putting new DBA rotors any thoughts on
    -slotted

    -drilled

    - dimpled

    Any advice would be helpful!

    Hi,

Rather than keep deleting your posts for being vauge in their topic (ie such as discs and wheel spacers) for this section of the forums, I've added some more info to the title.

    Also, pls check this out...
    http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/showthread.php?t=53371

As far as scrubbing goes, I assume they are scrubbing on the inside, hence the need for spacers?

For the discs, I have heard also that drilled can shatter, but I think that would occur under some pretty unusual conditions, which I doubt you'd experience in your Hilux. Unless, of course, you've got it modified for track work or something similar?

Slotted would be fine for most modded applications, and keeping them solid would be fine for stock.

    Hi,

Spaces are thin discs (some not so thin) that fit have holes and fit over your hub, and then you bolt on your wheel. So they space the wheel further out towards the guard.

They are not regarded as legal, but many people use them.

You need to take note that the spacer reduces the length of thread that the wheel nut can bite into, and therefore a wide spacer may mean you only get a few turns on the wheel nut, and this is not good.

You can buy spacers in most auto car shops. They are not expensive and most have slots/holes to fit most popular wheel bolt spacings. If you are going to try them I suggest you go for the thinnest ones possible and see if that makes a difference. If you get a wide spacer (ie 10-15mm or more wide) you'll probably need to get longer wheel hub bolts.

Do you have any idea how much space you need to clear the rubbing?

probably about 10-15mm, not sure ill have to pull the wheels off and have a look, they would bolt on the out side of the rotor and caliper?

    Hi,

Here's what the thinner wheel spacers look like...

If you reckon you need a lot more space then you buy ones which bolt onto your hub, and the wheel then bolts onto the spacer. That is, the spacer has bolts on it. Heres' what these type of spacers look like....

And here's a pic of how the above spacers bolt on and look on your hub...

    Hi,

I have no idea on the cost or how strong they are. I assume they must be strong or we'd be hearing a lot more about them breaking and causing carnage.

They may also affect the handling and/or put undue strain on the suspension, by having the wheels out wider than the manufacturers recommendation.

You can be assured there's someone here in these forums that uses them and can advise.

    Hi,

    Huh?

You said it rubs on the inside? I was assuming the inside of the tyre... as in against the suspension. If the tyre rubs against the guard then spacing the wheel/tyre further out will only make it rub more.

You'll need to roll the inside of the guard flat, and if that's not enough then you'll have to flare the guards out.

Can a panel beater roll the inside of the guards? And what does that include?

    Hi,

Inside your guard, if you run your hands over it you will feel a lip on the inside. This gets flattened when you get the inside of the guard rolled, which can give you some more room - depending on how wide the lip is.

Check yellow pages as there are dudes that come to your place and do it. It costs about $50 per corner - so about $100 to do your front guards.

They attach some device that rolls over the inside of your guard which flattens the internal lip. Takes about 5-10mins per guard.

    Hi,

Yes, I surprise myself at times.

That guard rolling specialist is the dude I used. Did a good job.

what do you describe as the inner guard
1 the guard lip or 2 the metal panel that separates the motor from the wheel
if it is the first, one spacers will only compound your problem and rolling the guards as suggested will fix it
but if it is the other spacers\adapters will go along way to fixing the problem

just get the right offset wheels to start with
i have 17X8 28P wheels with no rubbing - but it doesn't drag its ass along the ground either
