    Default Changing Pinion Flange seal

    Hi

My TA22 is leaking from the pinion flange seal. As a result I need to replace it.

SO ; remove tailshaft ; undo pinion bolt. Remove flange, replace seal, replace flange, put bolt back on. Tighten.

Now for the 64 billion dollar question. The diff when assembled would have had the preload set - replacing this seal - do I (or should I) get the pre-load set again? Or do I simply torque it up to spec?

    Any thoughts/suggestions VERY welcome.

    Greg,

Tighten up nut to Minimum torque quoted and then nudge to line up old stake mark on nut.

Do not take to maximum torque straight away as this may crush the collapsible spacer.

Let me know if you want to borrow the Workshop Manual I am just around the corner from you.

As toyoda said be wary, one thing i would also do is mark the Nut & the Pinion shaft not the Flange & count the number of turns it takes to remove the nut completely ... Bit anal ? but saves screwing up a good diff as you dont know for sure what torque spec's they used when it was built it as it may not be a factory spec built diff etc, etc..
