Default Safety Issues in Tech and Conversions

Right, not much annoys me with car modifications these days, EXCEPT people who go off spouting ways of doing things that are clearly unsafe and have a high risk of serious failure, and then proceed to espouse it as perfectly safe in the T&C forum.

What im talking about is drivel like in this thread: http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/showthread.php?t=64173

While im all for modifying cars, im not into building deathtraps. And having people grind down their hubs with angle grinders or bench grinders is ridiculous, and plainly unsafe. Its pretty damn clear that they dont understand what they are doing and dont give a shit about anyone else.
Plus this is in the public section of the forum, and is being espoused as truth.

    This shit needs to stop.

I know doesn't solve anything but the Poster should always put in a "take it own risk, toymods and myself are not responsible for any damage to property or persons when and after undertaking this modification, this is purely to be used as a guide for further information please seek the aid of a local engineer. Also note this modifaction may not be legal in all states please refer to your local office for department of transport to clarify state laws"

Just kinda covers peoples arses and the clubs reputation if something god for bid does go wrong.

but.. toymods should not NEED to ask people to provide stupid "don't sue me" statements...

the idea is that Toymods provides GOOD information.. not dodgy bros. type information

the clubs reputation, for better or for worse, revolves around (amongst other things) not putting up with dodgy people (in public )

I'm sure there is a disclaimer to that extent when you register as a forum user.

This forum is good like that though, in that people will clearly point out if something is unsafe, and most people do have the common sense to come to the same conclusion anyway.

    Isnt it? Might explain 7M's??

I agree with everything said above.

A small amount of knowledge of metallurgy would tell you certain grades of steel and iron cant be hot worked at all either and must be "cool" worked/machined or they will become very brittle and that could end in a huge disaster or even deaths.

Its a risky call with this info... i think not so much a disclaimer but an

"I did it this way but i didn't have XXXX tool(s) available to me to do it correctly"

And if they dont know any better the more knowledgeable members will soon correct them.

Or give them a stern talking to/MEGA FLAME on everyone else's safety behalf.
Wish I had a F#%ken awesome toyota.. saving for the goodness now.... stay tuned....

    just saw this thread...

seriously, its the internet! stupid ideas abound, and the information on it is only as good as the people who are around to correct, educate, and encourage thought in another direction.

from what i can see exactly that has occurred in the thread, and therefore toymods wins at the internet. whats the problem?

maybe theres other ideas already posted that are dangerous, but you dont know enough on the topic to know any better? what do we do about those threads?

anyway, no better way to learn than by mistakes. and other peoples mistakes are always better than your own. i say leave the thread there, with all the fruity discussion, and anyone who reads it will exit it being a smarter person.

    Hi,

    Agreed.

The forums, and in particular the tech section, is sort of self moderating in regards to accurate information and safe work practices.

The discussion within the thread highlights any issues people have with how a modification is being executed and that's how we like to see the forums used.
