I am not 100% they are going to gradually phase in the 30 year rule, the two things I have read just say they will have a 30 year rule in place in 5 years time.

As for the Camira vs MR2.. what is one person's classic is another person's shitbox. Unique Cars has a wanted ad for an SJ Camira in it.. original as possible.. so someone out there obviously thinks its a classic.

Probably Top Gear Australia so they can destroy it. At least I hope so.

Some of us are old enough to remember when there was no concessional registration at all. If you had a 1927 Model T you drove twice a year you paid the same for rego as for your daily.

The fact that a 1985 model car is now eligible is something to be celebrated. The authorities could have easily chosen a firm cutoff of Dec 1972 like the UK. To take an example, a 1972 MGB is worth roughly double an identical 1973 model (in the UK) just because you save the equivalent of $300-350 AU a year on road tax.

If it isn't enforced for 5 years than maybe we can get our cars in just before they change it. That would be really good if they did. At least then it would cut 5 years out of the wait time, although I still think there should be some sort of limited registration for cars that get next to no use. Between my 2 MR2's and Crown i'd barely drive them 30 days of the year combined and paying over $1800 for 30 days use sucks the big one!

I know they would say that people would abuse the system but they should just implement te 3 strike policy like the hoon laws. Get caught without the appropriate paperwork and get your car impounded and if your dumb enough to do it 3 times your car gets crushed.

The story i heard last night at the club meeting was that the increase to the 30 year rule is that Vic Roads is going to increase it 1 year per year, for the next 5 years which means if they implement it early next year according to my calculations 1985 remains the cut off year for the next 5 years ..

Does the car explicitly need to be a Toyota to get a club permit through Toymods?

Reason being, I've got a 70s BMW that would benefit from a club permit instead of full rego - It would be driven 10-20 days max out of a year to dust the cobwebs out lol.

I think the Vicroads guys are concerned that Post 1986 vehicles, which are greatly in use today, may register on a club permit instead of full rego. I think this is BS. I've got a few VL Turbos that would also suit club reg, instead of full rego, as they are monthly drivers, or street drag cars that would be use to drive to and from the track and maybe a weekend cruise.

I don't think Toymods can give out Club plates to Vic guys as they are based in NSW. TCCAV (Toyota Car Club Australia Victoria) would be the people to get the Club plates through. Thats who i'll be getting my Crown done with next year.

As mentioned, we can only give club plates to NSW based vehicles. Also, we only give plates to Toyotas.... being a Toyota-based car club and all.

But it should be done on a car to car basis.

If someone has a genuine mint low km commodore they still should be able to get it on club plates. There probably suckers for cars like us but there taste's are for commodores and not Toyota's so it's not there fault there is a million other examples out there.

That would be easy to administer state wide wouldn't it

Maybe it could be done on a number of cars remaining registered or something.. ie once there are only 500 left on their database it clicks over... though that means that a 2009 Saab would count since they sold about 5 of them all year!

Human nature is a funny thing... Victoria clearly is going to have the best classic/historic rego scheme in the country, and we still complain!

Drift Motorsport, TCCAV takes on cars other than Toyotas. If someone has an interest in Toyotas that is enough for us, and their club permit car is welcome no matter what brand it is.

Its more us people close to getting our cars onto club plates only to be told that we are going to have to wait another 5 years before we can that are cracking the shits.

Personally I think the new scheme is a winner I just wished the left it at 25 years!!
