wen i had a loud daily the neighbours always used to bitch about me warming it up in the mornings lol

brett i must admit i do spend a good deeal of my time hanging around race tracks, you know jon, he and i often do recovery (had a ball at the sandown v8s a coupla weeks back)
even so, i still reckon on the street i see more highly modified CH cars than stockers...

Yeah, I hear you. There are a lot of highly modded cars on Club Permit out there. But I reckon the number are pretty much 50/50 between pretty stock and modified.

No issue for me either way. My Moke and MR2 are not exactly stock. But the Corona is mostly original.

RT104GT: I find it amusing that you're talking as though under the new rules you're forced to drive your car for 90 days a year, rather than having the potential to drive it if you choose to.

If you don't want your precious Datsuns to see the light of day, then don't take them out.

It'd be common sense to only take them where they'd be safe.

I don't see the red plate scheme as giving us carte blanche to do as we please.
The very nature of the cars makes them self restricting.
And keeps them in good condition.
That is if you want to keep them pristine and undamaged.
Do people really think they will drive their classic cars for 90 days each per year?
If you want a pristine car and frightened to drive it, then maybe it's time you sold them. What's the point of keeping them? I admit I rarely drive The 88 but that's because I have Trini and she's so much fun. However, I know the day I am so concerned about driving The 88 on the roads will be the day I sell her.

Or like the White FAIRLADY Zed in the Pic stolen from the Nissan dealer at Armidale, taken to Bowraville for a joyride and dumped 50 feet down in the Bellingen River.

Old classics have no security and are easily stolen.
A good car alarm and immobiliser is a must for any car, including your classic. At the end of the day if someone is skilled enough and determined enough, they will take your vehicle. So, the rule is to put in the best alarm/immobiliser system, don't park it where there is a high risk of theft, and make sure its well insured.

Daily driving also means daily parking.

We shall see how quickly the novelty of cheap rego wears off when your car
gets the first shopping trolley ding or stone chip, bird droppings out of shady trees, or locust splats.
Shits happens and you live with it. It's not the parking so much, but the other tools on the road who can hit you while driving (or rear ended, etc) that is of greater concern and does more damage. The alternative is to wrap your car in silk and bubble wrap and keep it locked up so no one can see it. This is fine if your regard your car as a sculpture, however enjoyment of driving the car is pretty much lost, and most of us have these cars so we can enjoy driving them.

There is no way I would daily drive these classics
I daily drive Trini (when she's not getting more mods done) and many people here drive their old cars about on a daily basis - but these are not historic rego vehicles.

As far as historic plate vehicles, the opportunity to be able to drive your car more often and with less restrictions should be seen as something good. If it doesn't appeal to you then just keep your cars locked away where nasty people and bird shit can't touch them. For the rest of us we welcome any chance to hear those old carbs sucking in the air while we cruise about in a fine classic piece of automotive history.

Some people own classic cars, and some of us drive them.

I was about to book in my MS65 for rego this month but after reading through this thread now I think I will hold out for club reg

I will only be driving it a maximum of 4 times a month so these new rules will suit me just fine. Can't wait to get this barge on the road.

If it were me I would not hold my breath on a government department getting something happening in the time frame they have suggested, particularly with the change of government just happening.

Rego it, and then cash in the unused component when you switch to a club permit. Current club permit rules wouldn't allow you to drive it as much as you are wanting to I don't think.

But yes come along and join TCCA

ive heard about this, great news.

is it definately coming into play in feburary? rego costs are about to nose dive

the change to the 25 year old to 30 year old rule may be an issue, but, "the proposed 30 year old rule change will not come into affect until after the new laws have been in place 5 years"

    can anyone confirm this??

No such thing as definite when you are waiting for a government department to implement new regulations/systems.

Yes the 30 year rule will come in to play in 5 years time.

The discussion paper initially released stipulated that the rule would change to a 30 year rule, however this was going to be phased in over the next 5 years. Thus a 25 year old car currently qualifies.
