WOW sounds like a great system!!!

I also wish we had this in NSW - our system isn't a club rego, only a historic rego... At $120 a year including greenslip - i would have heaps more cars.
I don't care about having to pass engineering - i firmly believe that cars that drive on the road should be checked.

Personally historically correct cars dont interest me to own - but modified classics do... but at $600 a year to rego, to drive like 20 odd times.. can only afford so many...

Well - looks good for you guys, stupid NSW will never introduce something like that lol

    cheers

No such thing as a free lunch o they say
    To quote our club
since changes 300 car clubs 40,000 red plates
see them everywhere lie baksides everyone has one.

    The downside
VICROADS have insisted clubs keep good records and police the red plates held by members.
Our club split into two, those who didn't ant to socialise and just have red plates.
    MODIFIED plates for some modifieds

VICROADS just sent out a letter explaining

11 VIC CLUBS lost CPS PERMIT approval

REVOKED due to no compliance, breaches and defects found at traffic stops

Its about time VIC ROADS changed the rules. Sick of seeing highly modified or competition cars driving around the streets on club plates thinking they are above the law. Most of these cars wouldn't even pass a roadworthy but they are allowed on the streets. The police and clubs have to get tuff on this.

Maxitrans in Ballarat can put there cars on club reg as there social club is also known as a sporting car club and Vic Roads let them do it. By the way Maxitrans builds semi trailers.

No you don't have to work at Maxitrans to get your car registered but you have to join the social club after the car has been inspected and thats another $104. And you should see what the car park at the factory looks like...lots of red plates.

I just put a 260Z through RWC, it had same assessment as any car.
    They did undercare inspection.
They did a Tapleys test on brakes.
ALso he took photos of speedo reading before and after.
I hear there was a big scam in Sydney re wound back speedo.
Cost was $130 an I only had days to resubmit for second inspection
which was a simple matter of unblocking heater to allow demister hot air to work and a rear seat cover

Anyway car is on club plates.
    My GT4 a year back was 39575
    This 260 z is 47576

That's 8000 cars, trucks etc in 1 year onto red plates in VIC not counting modifieds.

    and now 12 clubs deregistered

I have seen 2 cars already that are wearing 50000+ numbers so make that an extra 10 thou cars on the scheme in a year!

The only major change to the Victorian club permit scheme in the last 5 years has been that people are now able to drive at their own behest as opposed to only being allowed to drive in club sanctioned events.

The new system works brilliantly, with a large increase in classic cars being registered. Unfortunately Australia has a fairly high percentage of fun stifling wankers who are inherently opposed to anything that makes having fun cheaper or easier. Many of these people reside in traditional can clubs where they have a proud tradition of making members jump through hoops for clubs plates assuming they like you, your car, your accent and your politics.

Now that these people can no longer mess with car nuts directly they have elected to mess with the system that everyone uses, even though there have been no major problems with the existing scheme. (a small percentage of people driving unroadworthy cars does not constitute a fundamentally flawed system and a large increase in club plate registered cars actually indicates that the system works as intended-probably too well )

For this reason club leaders have been bleating about the fact that registration can be attained with only a letter from a club appointed scrutineer and a the negative effect this will have on the safety of vehicles being registered,
This is despite the fact that this facet of the Club permit scheme is unchanged from the previous incarnation, which all the clubs were happy with at the time.
