Default A/C System - What oil to use to lube o-rings?

    Hi all,

    I'm about to attempt to replace the TX valve in the Supra. I've been reading over the TRSM and it mentions;
    HINT:
At the time of installation, please refer to the following item.
Lubricate new O–rings with compressor oil and install the
    tubes.
Later in the chapter is says the Compressor Oil is specifically "Compresser oil: ND–OIL 8 or equivalent."

I'm guessing that this is the same oil that they put in the A/C compressor (ND = Nippon Denso?).

Would it be ok to use regular air compressor oil? The oil isn't going into the A/C system - its just to stop them rolling out of their seats while assembling the parts yeah?

    Cheers,
    Andy

when i changed my whole a/c systems oil rings to suit the a134 gas (along with a new drier) i bought 1 liter of oil thats suited to the a134 gas (bought it from coventries) and lubed the rings with it. as i was draining a refilling the compressor as well.

the same oil that goes into the compressor is what you lube the orings with.

i would think useing normal air compressor oil 'could' contaminate the rest of the system.

If it uses R134a then use PAG oil (Polyalkylene Glycol) and if it uses R12 (old gas) then you can use mineral oil.

If you use mineral oil on the O rings of an r134 system (they are usually green) they will dissolve and it will leak.

    Cheers fellas, glad I asked!

Will call the A/C place and see if I can wangle a cup full of this oil from them.

    Thanks!

If its a Rubber O-Ring you shouldnt use petroleum based lubricant it will degrade the rubber.

    Use silicone grease.

Pool shops would have this, its used to lubriacte pool pump Wet end lid O-rings.

If its a specific material then yes use the oil prescribed above.
