So feedback from AM auto in noosa (thanks lads) was the try the following or get it up to them.

Led light aligator clip to power source, probe on nsw pinout to check for artificial rev limiter. Move selector around. Park should indicate ground (light) in gear no light. This is next test.

Safc2 and hks fcd turned up today too.

Righto - may have found the source of the problem. The timing was waay out. The cam gears were correctly set so didn't notice at first but put it up on the hoist to have a look underneath and noticed the position of the harmonic balancer....So am surprised it started and hopefully no damage - funny thing was it idled perfectly. Fingers crossed this is the fix, I have a mechanic mate working on it today so hoping for his call this arvo.

Also noticed that the ball joints foulled ( grinded on the brand new ML320 rotors at 3/4ter steering lock) it has only been around the block once or twice but they will need to be shimmed to fit, or add some ricer negative camber : )

Fuel pump going in today too.

    Update:

Original gearbox went around the block a couple oF times (in limp mode)and was cactus, converter stuffed. It had received a belt to the sump at some point so was probably already dead.

NeW box is in along with shift kit and trans cooler.

New Steering rack and ball joints.

    And got rego!

Have had her home this weekend, she has the dreaded a340 limp mode (can manually shift to get 1st 3rd and overdrive (in drive). It will take off in 1st but then go straight to 3rd as per below.

    http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/tec...limp-mode.html

Also it was running hot today so might need to go bigger on the rAdiator side too, it will idle u
    to 100 degrees.

And a blow off valve (plumbed in)

Only running 10psi but it gets up and goes!

Here's a few vids(Sorry about the multiple short vids I have a max 8 second limit for uploads on my blackberry and haven't got another way of posting videos at the moment, and with the lighting it isn't always clear)

    Here's a few different runs;

This one was 1st gear from standstill but can't see the boost guage properly. MAX boost is indicating 10psi = wastegate.

This was 3rd gear half throttle

    Here's a speedo / tacho run 0-80km/h (where there is a 100kmh speed limit)

hook up the overdrive light and get codes for the auto trans
u might have speed sensor issues
try to manually pulse the solenoids from the ecu and this will tel u if wiring is fine
and maybe ecu is missing a signal

    Finally got her bacK yesterday.

Big thanks to. Jzk25 and the crew up at am in noosa.

Problem was the loom had been dragged through the firewall causing a short. Loom had to be stripped completely to find the source and re-wired.

Am then fitted the safc and ran her up on the dyno with the 044 installed and a bit more boost. Heap of grunt now but....

Merc diff is a 3.08:1, so toyota ecu is seeing 180kmh speed cut at 120kmh... New 3.4:1 diff centre coming and will sort the speed cut in the new year.

Open diff is a bit of a handful but she gets along!!

You sure about the speed cut?

It would be the other way around. you need to drive ~250kph to trigger the 180kph speed cut.

I know I used a 1.25 multiplier on my custom-made Toyota OBD-I reader to read out the speed properly from the OEM ECU. (it would read/show 48kph, but in fact I was doing ~60kph)

    bk is right
taller diff means engine and gbox revs would be lower so would need much higher speed to trigger speed cut
u have other issue or u have wrong speed signal into ecu
have u got the under dash diagnostic plug wired in i use my scan tool to read live data thru that plug on some 1js and 1uzs
and u can check ecu speed signal compared to actual road speed

how do u know its speed cut
maybe yr hitting rev cut and its not changining up to next gear
maybe give us more info on the symptoms

    Hey guys, cheers.

Your probably righ with the diff but it is a $400 option and it should make her a bit more driveable off the line - 1st gear now is about 80kmh on the limiter.
That and I don't know how long the current one will hold up so having a 2nd at home will be cheap insurance.

I'll grab a hks speed cut for the aristo in the new year as this is probably the quickest way to work it out.

Dumbass - where are you in qld?

I'll post some vids when I get back from holidays re: symptoms. It's not a rev limiter.

Al (jzk25) did try explaining it to me but I'm a bit clueless electrically. Apparently there are 2 electric speed signals and 1 mechanical (in this case from the merc diff). They all have to be consistent or it is temperamental. It is quite good on the freeway though, top is about 1300rpm at 100kmh so fuel economy won't get any better and I'd have a reasonable top speed (if it went past 120! - maybe temora next year)

I'm about 40 km south of brissy
there's front torque converter speed sensor
there's rear output shaft speed sensor
these are all in wiring and don't get touched
and this is all u need as a start
u then have backup speed sensor which drives speedo
then from speedo goes to ecu this is there just incase
the output shaft speedo sensor fails
if u don't hook signal from speedo to ecu then it's all fine
if u hook wrong amount of pulses to this signal then u might have conflicts
and also if no signal and your output shaft sensor fails then gbox
will prob stay in first as there is no backup signal
both signals are different type of signal and different pulse count

    As has been said,

That's some crazy low RPM in top gear ..
