Default Camry missing issue trying to solve

I have a manual Camry (daily driver) with a 3S-F carburetted engine and manual transmission, on the weekend past while driving I noticed it abruptly started feeling a little rough (we were doing 100km/h at the time it began) and lacking in acceleration like previous times driving it. The symptoms are as follows:

    - At idle it is revving at a lower RPM
    - Taking off from stop is sluggish and requires a higher RPM
    - acceleration in 5th takes a long time to get it to speed on freeway but isn't too bad from 40 - 70
    - Engine is clearly missing

I changed the plugs, the coil, I have spark through all 4 leads, the cap isn't cracked and the rotor button is in good shape...timing issue? vacuum leak? I seriously doubt its a dropped valve because changing the plugs and coil did lessen the effects.

The car is a $500 POS but I need to keep it running for a few more months (leaving end of year so all cars are being sold)...so cheap ideas and backyard fixes are welcome.

    Cheers guys.

theres a couple of things i would suggest here...

try richening up the mixture a tiny bit

adjust the timing, sounds retarded... (if you run premium fuel you can advance the timing slightly further, makes a world of difference)

make sure the accelerator pump works on the carby....

    What's the compression?
    Plug wire/s.

    Carbied hey? so no efi....

Changed/adjusted ur points? Assuming its got a set.

When they go, any car with em' becomes a slug and misses big time. Mate had same issue with ta22... Bad points seriously debilitate it bad like that.

sounds like its running on three to me....

clean your plugs. see if it improves for a while... does it burn much oil?

Check the resistance of your plug leads with a multimeter. If one lead has a lot of resistance you will have a weak spark on that cylinder. If it has points in the distributor and they are burnt it will run like crap.

If you still haven't got it going yet I would suggest you check the leads. I could be missing something but it says that you did coil and plugs but no mention of leads. If you lift the leads up while its running and check inside the plug hole chances are the leads will be sparking out the side and therefore causing your problem.

Alternatively if you have a spare set of leads throw them on and see how you go.

hey no issue still present, to be honest I havnt had time to go through the stuff you guys have suggested but yes it burns/leaks a shit load of oil (the engine has 300,000 and is flogged out)...but it only has to run a couple more months so i'll give a look at what has been suggested. I am ruling out internal major mechanical issue until all carbi and electrical possibilities are exhausted.

I have been changing only what I have to (moving stateside and cost to ship stuff is insane), otherwise i would have done a cap, plugs and rotor button as well. May come to it but its a gamble when I may change something that isnt screwed.

Needless to say I drove over 700km this weekend with it missing still and it did its job.

i agree check resistance through the leads you will find 1 will have nothing there for that will be the one with the problem however i recomend you change all your leads guaranteed you will change one and another one will go the next day or so.
