Default Black Soot and Water From Exhaust

    Hey All,

Just been getting the trueno, running a 4age and quads, ready for rego and have had it in my driveway, I stated it up the other day and saw that its stained my garage door with a lot of soot from the exhaust. I got a chance to look at it tonight and found its spitting soot and water out the exaust, pulled the plugs out and they where all covered in black soot aswell. I am also getting very poor fuel economy

I figure that all this points to running too ritch.

    Is this correct?

Now, if I am running too ritch, how to i fix this?

    Cheers

black soot and water is just condensation mixing with the carbon in the exhaust = black water.... dont stress

first things first champ, id do a diagnostic check with the diagnostic plug see if the computer is recognising any problems with the car...

how does it run at idle when its hot?.. is it rough?...

    things to check

    - dirty fuel injectors
    - dirty air filter
    - shitty old stale fuel
    - air leak, broken vacuum lines etc.

at work today, we had an ute with a fooked O2 sensor that was telling the ECU that one bank was running lean- the injectors were forced open, and it was running crazy rich.
the exhaust was spewing black soot and water.
id be saying its running rich, but i cant say why.

if this is the first time it has been started in a while, it will spit carbon out for a little while.

the water will stop once the echaust is hot enough to not let the water condense

I put black splats all over my driveway from starting my car.. Once made the mistake of starting it without the rear muffler on which instead put black shit all up under the car instead. It's annoying, but i wasn't under the impression it was a problem - is it just on startup or does it continue?

So what ecu are you running? What are you using for primary load sensing?

    cheers Chuck.

i dont know the ecu as of yet as im just getting it ready for rego atm, ill be able to have a look on the weekend.

the quads are boxed that has what looks like a second fuel rail that has vac lines from each TB linked to it and thats conected to a MAP sensor (i think...not raly sure as i cant see/dont know what im looking at or for) is that what you ment for primary load sensing?

Im a dealership apprentice so you guys may have to spell out a few things for me...

    ok.

let car warm up. If soot continues to spew out when warm, it's running rich. If not, it's normal.
