Default 1jz single turbo auto 98 model Hilux conversion

    Hey all
I pulled the knackered diesel out of my 98 model 4x4 hilux and now have in my possession a 1JZ soarer motor and auto.

The motor is going in with an auto, single turbo and aftermarket ecu.

Now first things - with fitting the auto i have bought a surf auto tranny/ transfer case.
I have today noticed the JZZ30 has the uber long slip yoke, and upon removing the rear casing, the a340e does not have the spline where i need it - whereas a a341e does.

I happened to have a 2jz a341e lying around so i pulled off the rear case and it will work when i cut the output shaft. Therefore being rubber donut like the 1uz a341e's it should be the same conversion as a 1uz auto to surf transfer - correct me if im wrong??

Now with the conversions i have read about with 1uz autos they say nothing about the a341e 4 pulse speedo drive- this protrudes too far into the transfer case adapter and literally would need cutting in half through the speedo gear drive to work with the 4 pulse output. The surf uses a straightish piece of metal then id say a 2 speed pulse?. Does anyone know what to do here?

another dilema is i want to use the 2jz box behind the 1jz and i want to use the JZZ30 instrument cluster. Is the jzz30 a 4 pulse speedo?

With an aftermarket ecu will i be able to adapt the different wiring from the 2jz auto vs a 1jz auto?

    thanks heaps guys
    Blake

I did this conversion some years back and did a writeup on Lextreme forum. Since then strange things have happened to the pictures in the writup. I also lost the pictures on my computer. It is a good thing
Duza on the 4WD Action Forum copied all my pictures and wrote it up there as well or I would have lost my pictures. He does say they are my pictures

you are going to have all sorts of different ratios ,diff ratios, wheel size ,speedo sensor drive
so who knows what result you will get on the speedo. You can get an electronic speed adjuster from Jaycar to adjust the speedo reading. I put a Surf transfer case into my 99 Hilux and had to make new worm and gear for the mechanical speedo drive to get the speedo right

madmont - mate does the surf transfer case work on the hilux?? i thought there may have been issues with the surf being full time 4wd and having that massive solenoid which has a spigot (im guessing its like a spigot) that goes into the back of the case?

    Blake

Bit of an update, im looking at using a MV autos built a340e modified to be a full manual shift...im told the transfer cases are tough as nails??
However apparently i have smashed diffs to look forward to....

The Surf transfer is part time 4wd Prados are full time 4wd
The Surf transfer is shifted into 4wd electrically with the motor on the back of the transfer case
The diffs on the Hilux are G series same as in many 1JZGTE powered Toyotas so should hold up although the front IFS diff is a bit weak and often break. I am planning putting a Supra diff in the front of mine.

ive been told the hilux front is an F series?

Contrary to the build plate, its the same scenario as the 80 series cruiser - 9.5" k series rear, 8" g series front....

So in short i will be able to use the surf case? how do i know if its in 4wd now or not??

You know it is in 4wd when the 4wd lamp comes on and the front driveshaft is engaged.
