Default 1GGTE coil convertion using 7m coils?

    hey all

i was just thinking, would it be possable to use all the 7m items (CAS, coils, ignitor etc) and convert the 1g's dizzy setup to coils?

much work for any gain? was just thinking about it as im looking into fitting a ct26 from the same motor to the lil' 1g

    cheers

What about 1G-GZE coils, though I dont know how the standard computer will cope with it because the conversions I have seen are with aftermarket computers? And you are still going to have thats same issue with the 7M items.

i think the 1GGZE and 7MGTE ignition/CAS are similar (tho probably not physically identical - would need some testing of the CAS fitment). Whether you have the same pin-outs is food for research. They certainly work the same way and provide the same kind of feedback to the ECU.

fwiw: there's little difference between 4agze, 1ggze and 7mgte coil packs.

so the 1ggze did run coils? hmmm

i might have a dig around, how much does the ecu do coil wise? i was hoping that the whole setup would be slightly interpendant and something could be put in place to drive it

    ill have a squiz anyways

it would be easier to stuff an adaptronic or msefi ECU on it, use the CAS parts of your current dizzi, buy some dumb ignitors, run waste-spark to your choice of coil-packs and stuff more boost/fuel into it.

From memory, the ignitor in the 7mgte/1ggze does the coil-pack selection and dwell control and sends raw timing data back to the ECU. The ECU calculates the advance and sends appropriate signals back to it - i cannot remember if it also participates in the coil-selection process (which would be the show-stopper) or whether the GTE ECU does dwell control (likewise a showstopper)

Your current ignition setup would be fairly robust and could cope with more boost - personally, it (changing the CAS, coilpacks, etc.) would be spending a lot of time and money with little/no discernible gain.

You will not see much of a difference in performance if any.

The easiest way would be to use the 1GGZE ECU to get the thing to work, with a bit more effort you can make up a module to run the coil pack,
The ECU controls the igniters but this is not done by the CPU there is some extra circuitry that performs coil selection; the ECU looks only to control dwell & timing.

Looking at the circuit diagram of the 1GGTE distributor it looks to have the same internal pickup coils as the 1GGZE, but I don’t have a 1GGZE distributor to confirm.
So you can most likely use the 1GGTE distributor & the custom triggering module with the 7M coil pack

I was going to try this but saw the gains were not there.

yeah ive been looking into this around the joint and its prob not worth it, im planning on going with something like a microtech ecu lateron so i might just get some spitfire coils at that point and convert it over then, or just get meckka thick cables as im liking the idea of a nice modded 1g for a while

    thanks for the input everyone
