Default TA22 celica wiper motor slow, slow speed

Do all TA22 wipers run like their in slow motion and has anyone tried some kind of conversion for this.
3TGTE might be old but it can still hammer along.

Pull the wiper motor out, give the commutator a good clean, and treat the motor to some new brushes. These poor old things are 30+ years old, and probably never had a bithday clean up in its life.

    cheers Chuck.

Where can you get these brushes from? More importantly, will this cleanup bring the wiper motors back to a decent speed or is a conversion more likely to gain better results?

    Cheers

Agreed. The motors are plenty strong enough, and it is just over the years they get gummed up and crap on the brushes and commutator.

Pull it apart and clean the commutator with some metho and cotton buds. Even use a little bit of steel wool - but be gentle. Soon the copper will be shining brightly. Also clean the brushes. I doubt they'd be worn out - just dirty - though getting new brushes will be a nice thing. Clean the insides of the housing and the armature/shaft of the motor. Check the bearings and give them some grease.

Also, check the rest of the wiper linkages and grease them up so it all moves fluently and easily. Re-assemble and profit!

Any of the later wiper motors will require rewireing, to accomodate the intermitent function.

Any electrical repair shop should have a supply of brushes that can be made to work. Probably cost you 5 bucks for the brushes, and about double that for some new bearings if you were so inclined.

Rivers cleaning method is pretty spot on. (he had to be good at something) Just take care not to remove any insulation from the wires, so soff brush, metho and cotton buds are the way to go.

    cheers Chuck.
