Default swapping ring gear and pinion on JZA70 torsen

Hi im after a bit of help. I recently picked up a JZA70 torsen diff in 4.1 ratio for my GA70 which currently has a 4.5 open diff. However instead of doing a straight swap to the JZA70 4.1 i would like to retain the 4.5 ratio but also have the torsen centre. My question is how difficult is this to do? From what i have read when you swap the ring gear and pinion the 'backlash' has to be set up properly, is this possible to do by oneself or must it be done by a professional?

Any help or opinions would be greatly valued!

If you are just putting the torsen into the GA70 housing it should be no problem just make sure you put the spacers back where they came from.

i just want to put the GA70 ring gear and pinion onto the torsen diff head to keep the same diff ratio i have now, I just need to know if i'll run into any problems with setting it all up as ive heard it can be tricky

hmm actually after reading this http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/gear_setup/ i see what you mean about spacers and it appears this can indeed be done as a diy job.

If you pull out the pinion gear and put it into another carrier you may find it difficult to setup but if the pinion bearings and seal are ok and left in place it is easy

yeah i thinking ill just remove the original open diff head, pull off the ring gear and put it on the torsen centre to make a 4.5 ratio torsen then reassemble.

Hard way: Swap 4.556 ring and pinion into the Torsen housing. Requires a complete setup of the ring and pinion.

Easy way: Swap the torsen center into the open housing.
