Going to run a single wire half inch hydraulic line from the surge tank to the oil pick up. Dont want that pipe to be sucked flat and block the line. The dip stick will fit well and im going to tig the oil siv onto the half inch BSP fitting at thye bottom of the tank.

Using STD ECU and to me that is the best way to run the vvt. Relays are all going to be Denso and all the wires added are Toyota.

I started the wirring and its almost there. Got the cluster working and the only thing on there is the alternator IG, S , L. Maybe you guys can give me sum advice on those. I know that IG is power thru a 7.5 fuse but im not sure on the hook up to the cluster. All the diagrams are in Jap for the 1j.

5 weeks later and thats were I am

For sure you rite there, thats why im going with the dry sump. I didnt want to cut the sump and in this case one would have a problem with the oil pickup ( it comes out rite onto the steering cross) one would also have to cut away about 40 percent of the sump pan.

Theres a pic of the chasser cluster. The two alternator wires ring out at the top were it ran to the hilux cluster before. Correct me if im wrong but the one wire should be a positive and then switch to negative when the motor runs. The other one i would think is L and that should bring the light on when you have alternator failer.

    Good work mate!

With regards to your alternator wiring.
IG - As you said is connected to an Ign +12V source
L - Goes to the charge lamp. (Usually these would go to one side of a bulb and the other side would go to an ignition +12V. I don't know if the chaser dash is setup this way however)
S - Goes to the battery positive terminal through a dedicated wire (only needs to be a small diameter)

    Thanks man.

On the chassers cluster there are warning lights for if a clobe pops on your head or tail lights. These run with one way resistors or diodes and the alternator is all part of it. Would think its got a switch over so when you turn IGN on, the batt and warning lights come on and when started up it switches off.

on the older model hilux's you can run a rear sump setup without any modification to the sump. I don't know if the same goes for your model though

A rear sump would have worked on this shape hilux as well. The 1j twin turbo has got the rear sump set up but for me to get my hands on that alli cast part of the sump I would have had to go and buy that whole motor. It is a bit of extra work to build up the surge tank and get all the plumbing done but once having it lazer cut and all the pipe work lenths are worked out it's a snap doing it after that. The nice thing with having the surge tank is that is going to be mounted just behind the bash plate so it will have air flow over it and in turn the oil will run cooler. Less oil splash on to the crank and less windage going down in the crank housing.

By the way I found the problem with the alternator lamp. Stupid me it was because the earth strap was not bolted on to the motor yet. Everything is working on the cluster now
