The original box they came out with, I think it was a W55, would be the ideal one to go with. Very strong box and would be an easy fit if you can get it complete.
Hi all,
In the planning stages with my 85 Corona 22RE RT142
Has anyone ever converted the standard auto to a manual gearbox? What manual boxes are available, what's involved and what are your opinions on this conversion?
I'm struggling at the moment with where I want to go with my Corona, hopefully your input will help me out! :-)
Thanks again.

3TGTE might be old but it can still hammer along.
Don't bother trying to get the parts from other cars.
Find a manual RT142 and get all the parts from that.
It'll be at least a billion % less headaches.

agreed. either sell yours and buy another rt142 that is already manual, or but an rt142 with a blown engine or something and swap all the gear from that.
prick of a job though, i will never do a manual conversion on a car again (well, i say that now...)
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....
ps mine had a W58 not a W55
it was a very early rt142 as well, build nuber was rt14200000000000000134 or something like that
