FWIW that idea was invented decades ago.
It's a variation on the steam expansion engine principle .... a good idea.

if only the steam engine could be put in todays trucks, tractors etc...because of the imense torque produced by itd be good. if this engine can produce high torque at lower rpms than a natural aspirated (NA) or even turbo diesel...they will have a winner, provided they get into production. i once had steam engines explained to me by a paddle boat captain giving me an idea of the torque produced by these things. he said "the crank shaft rotates 1 turn, the paddles rotate 1 turn, the boat moves forward"

The whole "100% torque at idle" concept is covered by electric motors. And steam engines (even in compact form) are no real replacement for internal combustion because efficiency is still crap and you have to burn some kind of fossil fuel (or micro nuclear reactor) just to make the steam in the first place, so it's not any greener.

Yep, there's a reason steam-powered piston engines are a thing of the past. Even current steam powered machinery (ships, power plants) ditched them decades ago in favour of turbines.

I reckon there's still life in them - true enough they still have to burn fuel like an otherwise conventional engine does, but because they use a constant flame rather than an intermittent one they can make it burn quite cleanly.
