    Post Master cylinder braces

    Hi all,
    I'm looking at fabricating braces for the master cylinders and was wondering if anyone has done this (especially interested in the xA6x for obvious reasons).

    Just want to get some ideas. If you've got photos, please post!

    I have no photos but Commodores have them fitted as standard. The brace bolts into the end of the master cylinder and on to the inner guard. The brace is made out of some folded steel.
    Not sure if there is a suitable threaded hole in the end of the xA6x master cylinder - I doubt it - so the other option might be to brace the booster using the studs that mount the master cylinder. You'll need to triangulate it to make it sturdy.

    I have one on my mz21 soarer, its a cusco item.

    Bolts to the top of the strut tower.

    May be able to get a photo if required, but a net search may yield same result

    do commodore ones actually 'brace' the m/c? they are pretty flimsy looking.

    The Commode one....love the 253 by the way.

    Evo, believe it or not it does do something. Take it off and then see what happens!


    And now some sturdier designs.

    An off the shelf jobbie you could buy.


    Looks like the two lower designs have the big bolt pushing against the end of the master cylinder rather than threaded into it. The other nut is just a locking nut.

    MZ10's have a threaded hole in the end of the cylinder.

    It will bolt into all xA6x's as long as you use MZ10 brake lines too.

    Note: MZ11 and MZ12 are the same as xA6x
    MA63 may be the same as MZ10.
    The hole was to bolt on the factory heat sheild from M-TEU turbo's.

    Far out, that cusco one looks overly complicated.
    I reckon next year ill build one out of plate steel. Pretty simple design to have a bolt pressing against the end of the MC.

    When you brake hard the firewall will flex a bit. So a cylinder master stopper reduces this and you get a more solid brake feel. In some of the incar footage of prodution type racers you can actually see the clutch move forward when the brake is applied.

    Have another look at the cusco one though, brake line comes out of the end hence the wierd design

    heres a picture of one for USDM mk1 mr2's with the same bolt pressing on the MC i think. it looks like a flimsy ass bolt though

    Nark,

    You may find that some of the kits are not actually screwed into the end of the master cylinder.

    There is usually a centre hole for locating the cylinder in a boring machine. Is this the case for your MC?

    If so my suggestion is to make a triangulated bracket to bolt onto the strut tower and have a bolt with a tapered end and lock nut to adjust up into this centre hole. Similar to the Comodore one but with the extra bracing to stop the bracket bending.

    In my Race TA-22 with dual MCs and no booster, I made up a brace to stiffen the plate on the firewall as opposed making one fit onto the ends of the MCs.
