    Default turbo inline oil filter

hi im looking at running a inline oil filter for my garrett T28BB
im still undecided on the brand either flow ezy or a earls type and i would like a stainless filter for the filtration

Do you think these are worthwhile and are there any problems with using these

any suggestions on brand or type or info would be appreciated

I'd advise against it - you want oil supply and pressure to the turbo as soon as you can after you start craning - any delay (induced by a filter replacing any drain-back or a pressure drop over a cooler) could be fatal for the bearing housing.

Your oil supply to the turbo should be off the main supply to the block which is filtered anyway.

so should i run the turbo oil feed from the block or from my oil filter relocation ?

the main concern why i would like to fit the turbo oil filter is the 1mm restrictor it could easily block up
and stuff up my rebuilt turbo
    thanks

I think your oil pickup's sump screen will keep out the 1mm stuff.

If your oil feed for the turbo is taken from after the engine oil filter, why is an additional filter needed? If it's going to stuff the turbo, it's gong to stuff the engine too isn't it?

If you are running a turbo, are you not also running good quality oil that is changed regularly?

If your original filtration system is not cutting it, by all means upgrade it. but a second filter for the turbo only? why?

interested to see the consensus here. Fitting one on my setup will be a PITA lines wise, was debating whether to bother..

shame it seems you can only do a poll on the original post..

depending on the pressure feed location ofcourse, you would want to run a filter incase you lunched your engine and your main and rod bearings ended up in your turbo bearings, Also, incase any contamination made it through the system and blocked of your restrictor.
If there is already 1mm restrictor in your feed line, i cannot see a small volume inline filter causing any noticeable oil starvation problems on startup etc. Ofcourse if you hold your engine WOT before oil pressure is reached then its a problem, but who is stupid enough to do that. For starters, the turbo wont be spinning fast enough to warrant the need for any oil pressure at startup anyway.

you always take oil feed after the filter - and if you lunch the engine, the borked bits end up in the sump, go thru the pump, and then get caught in the oil filter.

IMO, no need for an extra oil filter. Most turbo engines take the supply directly after the oil filter. In the case of your engine blowing by the time it gets from the oil pan through the pick up to the filter you would have either caught all the material in the filter or turned off your engine.

In the long term as long as you regularly change the oil and filter, plus look after your engine properly you will never have a drama with anything getting to the turbo.
