    They were definitely different sizes!

    After reading a post by Stu he had some good ideas regarding the headlight's which was along the lines of what you've done Karl which is pretty cool and since u were saying this does a bit of juice then this alternator upgrade seems like a sweet idea.

    What is the standard Amp rating of a 3T-GTE one, i just went outside to look on mine but i couldn't see anything on it. Searching was also unsucessful.

    ea and eb alternators are different. ea is bosch and eb is mitsubishi electric

    and in 9 years of being an auto elec i have only ever seen 85amp bosch on an ea ford.(unless some1 has changed if from factory). Same alternator as most magnas

    Ea was available with the mitsushity alternator in their later years, just before the EB. Same alternator, different belt pulley. Youve probably never seen it cause EAs arent worth takeing to mechanics or auto sparkies

    Oh, and in 6 yrs of being at uni i never saw an on campus orgy... doesnt mean they dont happen

    True that! One question....Does it matter what sort of belt pulley is on the ea alternator? I found one yesterday (70 amp though), with a grooved pulley.

    The pulley must match what you have, or be interchangeable. I believe you should be able to undo the bolt off the front and remove the pulley, then do the same with your alternator and bobs ya aunty... this is if the centre holes are the same. Otherwise, you should be able to pull one off something surely.

    Thought this might be of some use, especially for people doing a search.
    The same Nipondenso alternator is used on the following cars:

    Celica eng.18R-C 2.0L 73-81;

    Celica eng.21R-C 2.0L 82-83;

    Corona eng.21R-C 2.0L 82; eng.2S-C 83-87;

    Bundera RJ70 eng.22R-C 2.4L 86-91;

    Coaster eng.21R 2.0L 73-77;

    Hi-Lux RN27, RN31, RN36, RN41 eng.18R-C 2.0L 77-83;

    Hi-Lux RN46 eng.18R-C 2.0L 79-83;

    Hi-Lux RN85R eng.22R 2.4L 90-96;

    Landcruiser FJ40, FJ45, FJ55, FJ60 eng.2F 4.2L 75-85;

    Landcruiser FJ62 eng.3F 85-90;

    Landcruiser FJ70, 75 eng.3F 4.0L 85-92.

    This means the Alternator upgrade is suitable for engine blocks, 2T, 3T, 12T, 13T, 12R, 16R, 18R, 19R, 21R, 22R, F, 2F, 3F. And possible more. (Dont ask me what a 12 or 13T is )

    Although the "825mm" belt will probably only suit the 18R.
    An idea i havnt tried, is to use a different, longer, swing arm, possibly off the EA falcon, as a longer arm will give more adjustment, and thats what we all want

    Quick Edit and Note: This Guide does NOT SUIT a 22R-E, that is 2.4lt Celica's or 90's 4-Runner's, as they already have internal regulators. I will have a look at the mountings to see if a EA alternator will fit later, but note that the wiring will be different.
    So dont rely on this Guide for a 22R-E

    Just to add to this, the mounting for the 22RE alternator is the inverse of what is found on the other engines. So there is a solid mount on the alternator, which slots between the forked mounts on the engine block, rather than the inverse being the case for all other specified motors.

    I put the EA alternator on my 3T/2TG hybrid last weekend and here's a few things i found:

    1. The adjuster bracket was approx 1" too short to fit the falcon alterator.
    2. It now needed a 11A850 belt.
    3. The lower radiator hose now fouled on the alternators cooling fan.

    Once i got around those things (and the dodgy wiring that was in the car) it is a fantastic upgrade. The motor runs smoother, i've never seen the wipers move so quick or the lights so bright. I can post some pics if people would like...

    I'm trying to source an 85A Falcon alternator, i keep getting asked if the alternator i need has a grooved or ribbed belt? Does it matter? My toyota one has a ribbed belt.

    No wreckers here seem to have any 85A ones (typical Darwin), i'm keep ringing around but if anyone can help me out in getting one i'd be grateful, i'll put up a thread in Parts Wanted soon if i have no luck here.

    oh yeah pics still arnt working
