    Default self bans

hey mods, in another forum i frequent they have a thread where the poster writes which subforums they would like a tempban from, and how long they would like to be banned for. it is a great way to get yourself away from distractions during exams, study, etc.

is toymods able to set this up too?
    cheers.

edit: in the other forums (overclockers australia), this is the thread starter:

    Ban Request Thread (Exams etc)
This is the consolidated "please ban me for x days" thread. Simply post how long you'd like to be banned for and we'll do our best.

Keep the "LOL NO SELF CONTROL" comments out of here, ta.. or I'll assume by posting in this thread you also want a ban.

Edit: Note as of April 2007 people will now have the custom title (Taking a Break) instead of (Banned or Deleted) to distinguish them from people who have been banned not-by-request.

Im sure that River would get a lot of satisfaction from this...

Although it may be possible with some features of the new forum, realistically i dont think the moderators could keep up with taking care of this.

There is a thing called self control and if you are so tempted by Toymods in your time of study, then think about how you are going to cope in the real world.

    big zop, read above quote.

also, it was easy enough to do with the old forums. vbulletin has had it implemented for quite some time.
all the mods would need to do is check the thread, if someone says ban me for xx weeks, they ban them? simple.

    little harsh aint it...

i just figure.. if you cant keep away from toymods and actually need to be banned to stay away... you may need some help... maybe Greg would be of more use than mods..

    Toymods Anonymous maybe?

i can admit i do find it hard to seperate myself from forums, and its not only this one.

a fair chunk of my uni course is done on computers, and whilst i try not to get distracted, i always end up doing so. also trying to stop spending money on stuff i dont need right now, and having access to car parts is kinda smirking at my bank account.

its not an addiction that i need to be on the forums every day lurking, it just gives me more of a distraction and a 'hey, this is more fun than doing your work / what you should be doing' kinda thing.

thought the idea could benefit others if they are going through the same thing.

    Hi,

Sure I can ban you, but its a total ban from the forums. That is, I can't selectively ban you from various areas of the forum. It's all or nothing.

How many years before your uni course is finished?

PS: Tomvale wasn't asked to be banned and he was not banned. He took a self imposed hiatus for 4 weeks for failing to live up to his end of the bargain with that "walking to work" project.

    FFS.
I think you guys need to pull your head in and wake up to yourselves or I will start handing out the neg reps myself.

    rdorman.
Yes it CAN be done as River has said, and it will be a whole forum ban for the time asked for. However once the ban is in place we WILL NOT remove it for any reason. So Don't come back in a week and ask us to remove the ban, because we won't.It will be left to run it's course
There has actually been a few people ask for a temp ban for one reason or another and it's happened.
In saying that though, There also will not be a thread for it either.
