    Default 86 AE86 SR-5, Check engine light

can anyone tell me why my 86 corolla sr5 does not have a check engine light, nor a place for one in the cluster? i figured it would have a dummy light even though its a 86, my 84 porsche had one, very strange

Because it doesn't have a computer to output error codes: no check engine light needed.
If its anything like an aus spec ae86, when you do a 4age conversion you will need to hook up an extra light connected to this pin on the ecu.

sr-5 probably has a carry over dash from the ae85 which wouldn't need a check engine light on any model.

There is a pin on the ECU.

Download the diagnostic manual from the link on aeu86.org I gave you previously. It has simplified wiring diagrams that make it clear.

Ah, according to the diagram there is no check engine light, nor ecu, but there is an emissions control computer

because it failed the texas emissions test because of lack of a check engine light, now i just have to bring in documentation that the car was never equipped with this light. We dont have the nissan sunny over here in the states either, over here its called the sentra but never came turbo not to sure on the pulsar, the pulsar here looked a heck of a lot different than either and came with a 1. something non turbo

RobertoX is saying it has no computer because he is referring to the SR5 cluster. SR5's didn't have a 4AGE so no computer to send a signal to a check engine light. Therefore no check engine light.

If you want a check engine light you need to source a GTS cluster, and have a 4AGE with factory computer wired to it.

The oxygen sensor has nothing to do with the cluster.

Californian emissions spec. We never got a Cali equipped 4A-C over here, and hence why we have no idea what you are talking about.

I never said the o2 sensor had anything to do with the cluster, what I was simply asking was if there was an ecu?(which there is not, there is only an emissions control computer) I am very aware that the o2 sensor would not directly connect to the cluster. I dont want a check engine light or need one for that matter. If the car never came with one then I do not have to have it to pass my emissions test here in Texas, what I was unsure of is if somebody could have possibly switched the cluster out for one in an older car or japanese model. But thanks for all of everybodys help, I think I have the info I need
