i thought the ke70/ae86 crossmember had a slightly less rear facing Xmember than the ta23 Xmember (ie there is less of a curve on the ke70/ae86) will this be an issue for the front sump 1uz. will there still be plenty of space to play with?
this is as per brett-celicacoupe's suggestion, I don't know if it is relevant to the 23/28 variety (I should test it with the one in the shed), but he mentioned and i can confirm that the mx62 swaybar fits to the RA40.
I wonder if the mx62 swaybar sits slightly further out than the original ra40 item (wich i have now thrown away )
If I can, I will go under the car tonight and see if i can measure how far out roughly the swaybar goes in the middle compared to the mounting points.

Im not sure how common they are.Originally Posted by fuzz!
Ive heard that a spring maker on Port Rd in Adelaide make them.
No idea on cost.
There is also a good chance one can be found from a different car that can be used with custom mounts, etc.

You are correct, the KE70 xmember does run pretty much straight across where the TA23 does curve backward towards the firewall a bit.Originally Posted by barned01
Im not sure if the KE70 xmember will foul the front sump.
If it does, it shouldnt take much to modify the sump to fit.

on the topic of R&P conversions for 23/28's, does anyone have any clues as to a suitable power steering rack that would fit the car?
i would love to have power steering, and seeing as the 1uz already has the pump mounted it would be nice to use it.
Well i used a AE82 manual rack, but AE82s also came out with power steering, so i guess one of those could be used.
Although, if you can find one, a rack shorter than the AE82's would be better (help with bumpsteer).

hmmm.. can't just grind down and re-tap the AE82 to make it a little shorter?Originally Posted by MWP
You would also need to shorten the housing.Originally Posted by fuzz!
More trouble than its worth if you can find a different rack thats shorter.

Real interested in yor R&P conversion. I had a look at the link to the old site but cannot access the photos - any chance of getting me a copy.

CrUZida, what does that little round shiny number weigh? Also, what pressure plate does it use, what did it cost you, and where do I get one?
Cheers;-)
Hmm, 8kg without ring gear, 8.5 with?
I think thats what QCA said, I never personally weighed it.
Its billet steel too, not chromalloy.
Utilises a standard Hilux 240mm clutch.
Cost (2.5 years ago) was $340 for flywheel, $120 for new ring gear (Nissan Navara) - give or take.
And contact Pete (QCA) on Lextreme forums.
I'm not sure what his business number is, maybe Fuzz! knows?

just a note to an old thread.
THe distance from the mounting points of the mx62 swaybar out to the front is 30mm or there abouts.
Curious now if this is more, less or the same gap as a normal ra23/28/40 swaybar.
If it is more this could sove the swaybar issue (well for the ra40 at least...it depends if the 23/8 is the same)
that would then just leave steering
