    Default mx83 cressida - vvti 1j swap

hey everyone joined up a lil while ago to try find some info on the swap i plan on doing but cant seem to find what im looking for

    i will be using a jzx100 auto half cut into a 1992 mx83

i have been told the motor its self bolts straight in, but not sure about the tail shaft and the wiring side of things

also is the exhaust manifold on the vvti motor different to the non vvti 1j planning on doing turbo swap before the motor goes in

will the 1j tail shaft fit?
    gear box cross member?

i know this conversion has been done a few times before but nothing i could find has been wirtten up about it

just wanted a better idea on things before i started to attempt it

    thankyou

    Ben

hey ben, try hitting up the cressida forums, hit search and you shall have *most* of the answers you need... http://forums.toyotacressida.net/forums/

    - vvti and non-vvti manifolds are different i believe
    - tailshaft depends on what gearbox you're using, same as gearbox crossmember
    - should be able to find all wiring details on jzx100 forums or cressida forums

You'll need some jzx81 or jzx90 engine brackets.
Put the 7mge rear extension housing and speedo gear onto the jzx100 auto. Tailshaft and transmission mount will bolt straight back in.
If you get yourself a halfcut that will have alot of the bit's you'll need for the conversion. ie: acc cable, power steering canister/line, hoses, etc.
I can do the wiring for you. I'v wired up about eight 1jz cressys and another three 2jz cressy's.
PM me for more info and help.

1jz vvti and non vvt heads are different so manifolds are not interchangable

HKS do a few kits for the vvti, but there way over priced. I'v heard good things about hiflowing the stock turbo. This is what i'm planning on doin with my vvti turbo.

PeterH on these forums has a manual one he did himself, he can probably offer some advice as well, FYI.

sp2 runs the trans on these things-mine wouldn't shift out of 1st without it anyways, and yes i did try to run it of sp1 to no avail ,also note the reluctor ring is 12ppr and is shorter than std 4ppr-the 12ppr is held in place with clip-you will see the groove. im nearly 99% sure there is no sp1 on trans shaft(can;t remember but in my little bucket of i should keep parts-no sp1 trans sensor).with mine i used the cressida extension housing, jzx100 pulse ring,10mm spacer (cut from my old alloy mx83 1 pulse ring) and my mx83 spedo ring.
i had to mod the extension housing to accept sensor.
old cressida sp2 sensor with about 20mm cut off tip used to plug sp2 sensor hole,
    have fun

sp1 and sp2 are vehicle speed sensors in the auto trans gear box, the ecu needs these to correctly operate the transmission

    Hi,

Geez I was trying to keep my head down on this one, thanks mate

While I did do the conversion myself the single job I did farm out was the wiring. I have a fairly basic understanding of auto electrics and thought I'd be better of paying someone rather than fight with something I'm not comfortable with.

Having said that if there is anything specific you'd like to know just shoot me a PM and I'll see if I can help....

    Cheers,

    Pete
