check out the nissan bluebird station wagon, theyre a nice big twincore unit. Should fit easily in the celica as it was a nice snug fit in the KE70
Hi guys just wondering what radiator would be best to use in my ta22 with 4age. I could get the origional tanks modified but if there is a radiator out of another car that i could use that would be easier.
So just wondering what other people have used or what they recommend.
Thanks
Ben

Opinions are like assholes, everybodys got one.
I would recommend getting the tanks modified, and also re-coring at the same time. Something in the way of a thick twin core, or a triple core would be good. This way the fitment is perfect, and you have essentially a new radiator.

I have an alloy one that is about 10cm wider and same height but heaps thicker. I spose that wont really help you but on another note when i bought the 22 it had a 3tgte in it and was running the stock radiator and im pretty sure the guy who had it before didnt have any troubles.

LeeRoy what side are the outlets on that radiator on top and bottom? passenger side or drivers side cause i need one that has the outlets on the drivers side.
Thanks

I agree with o man ra 23
If you get tanks modded and a re-core you will end up with a perfect fitting brand new radiator that you know will do the job!
Its isnt that costly either you should ring up and get some quoates.

I have been running the stock radiator with my 3tgte. I had it reconditioned and kept it topped with coolant and had no overheating problems through summer.
Yep, go for a triple core using your current tanks. I did this for my modified 3T GTE and its been fine.
The stock radiator will struggle if you work the engine hard on a hot day. Especially if you air conditioning

Seconded. A good move with a new engine set up. Makes sense to upgrade your cooling system.Originally Posted by TA22 GT
Works good for 2TG too. Even they come close to overheating on the standard two core set up when worked hard on a hot day.
I cheap option is to use an automatic mitsi colt (around '85) radiator. They are triple core radiators and slightly smaller than ta22 radiator surface wise. I am using one on my ta22 with 4agte engine, it has been running fine without any problems during 38 degrees days.
Thanks for all the replies guys
Looks like i will just get the tanks modified and also change the core.
Can anyone recomend a place to get this done (i live in greenacre).
Thanks
Ben
Ben the outlets are as follows; top - passenger side & bottom - passenger side. i picked the core up for like 220 from pwr in a sellout thingy cause they sent my mate a catalogue and the tanks are costing about 300 but ive also gotta trim down the core cause its a little too long. It wasn't an off the shelf one but and the standard radiator has the same setup with both outlets on pass side. A few friends with ae86's run st162 (im pretty sure) radiators and their outlet on the top is pass side but theyve run a pipe across and used it for a water temp sensor to go in. They have a hose that comes out and goes 90 then alloy pipe straight then another pipe that goes into where the water pump is.Originally Posted by Schmitt

you dont really need a very big rad' for a 4age though. look at the stock ae86 one.
one of those will obviously have the pipes in the right spot but the mounting iwill be differant and probably too wide.
ill second moving the pipes though. its pretty cheap..
hmm one to try would be AE71 corrolla. its the same style as ta22, should be close on size and will have the pipes in the right spot to i reckon (4ac motor).
why change it?
a 4age will need less cooling capacity over a 2t
just the nature of a modern motor
i would change it iff you have a prob, otherwise dont waste your time/money

Hi guys thanks for all the replies.
Seeing as my core was crap anyway i just got my radiator recored and the outlets moved on the tanks.
Thanks
