Default Toyota Fest 2009 - WA Thread: Sydney, 4th October 2009

Starting a new thread for to gauge other people's interest in attending Toyota Fest 2009 in Sydney? As far as I'm aware, previous plans to attend this event by other people have been shelved until 2010, so this thread is to see who is interested in attending this years event?

Personally, I'll be there regardless, though I've not yet decided if I'll take a car or not. If I do, freighting it to Adelaide and then sight seeing along the way through the Barossa, Mildura, Melbourne, around the coast to Eden, then inland to Canberra, then onto Sydney has my favour currently - dependant on time(may freight into Melbourne if time does become a factor).

So that's my pencilled plans, who else is interested?

    EVENTS:

Saturday October 3rd - Clint's Coffee Convergence - In Sydney!!!
    Sunday October 4th - Toyota Fest 2009
Sunday October 4th - Lowenbrau Dinner - last year's thread
Wednesday October 7th - WSID Drag Racing - last year's thread

For those of you contemplating the trek, here's a timeline for you to work out what goes where and why?!:

    ITINERARY:

September 7-11th Drop cars off to the freight depot for those of you freighting cars to another start point.

September 26th - Perth to Balladonia
September 27th - Balladonia to Ceduna
September 28th - Ceduna to Adelaide, or fly into Adelaide
September 29th - Adelaide to Warnambool
September 30th - Warnambool to Melbourne, or fly into Melbourne

October 1st - Melbourne to Canberra
October 2nd - Canberra To Sydney, or fly into Sydney

Saturday 3rd October - Clint's Coffee Convergence "Sydney"
Sunday 4th October - Toyota Fest Car Show during the day, Lowenbrau Dinner during the evening
Monday 5th - October: Recovery from Sunday!
    Tuesday 6th - Free Day
Wednesday 7th - Toymods at WSID

Thursday 8th - cars to freight depot, fly home, or Sydney to Waikerie
Friday 9th - Waikerie to Fowlers Bay
Saturday 10th - Fowlers Bay to Norseman.
Sunday 11th - Norseman to Perth

Monday 12th - Go to work shattered and in serious need of time off after your epic sojurn, but have some absolutely wicked roadtrip stories to tell your mates during lunch break!

    COSTS:

For those of you contemplating flying over:

    Airfares: $500-600 Perth-Sydney-Perth.
    Accom: $300ish for 5 days
Food and Booze: $300-500ish for 5 days
    Transport and entry costs: $300ish
    Spending money: whatever you choose

For those of you contemplating taking a car by freight:

Freight from Perth to Adelaide, with an airfare into Adelaide - $500ish and 3 days travel saved
Freight from Perth to Melbourne with an airfare into Melbourne - $700ish with 4 days travel saved
Freight from Perth to Sydney with an airfare into Sydney - $1100ish with 6 days travel saved(The 6th night is the first night of Sydney)

Freight From Sydney to Perth with an airfare to Perth - $1550ish
Freight from Melbourne to Perth with an airfare to Perth - $1150ish
Freight from Adelaide to Perth with an airfare to Perth - $750ish

For those of you contemplating driving over:

Car prep - $500 - 1000 (extra fuel, Jerry cans, new battery, toolkit, fluids, spares, ...)
Fuel - $1350 - if you don't know how to work out fuel mileage and economies, budget $2000 (because you are dumb!)
Accom - 5 nights over going via Melbourne and Canberra, 5 night stay in sydney, 4 night return, then mulitply by 2 because driving by yourself is boring - $1400
    Food and Booze - $1500ish
Transport and entry costs - $150ish
Spending money - whatever you have left!

So driving over is a $5000 minimum safe budget, assuming no friendly sleep overs, and only two people.

If you're seriously considering attending, please let me know you intended arrival and departure dates so I can cost an accom deal too?!

    Clint!

I'm toying with the idea of coming, but it will be fly-in, fly-out if I do.

So budget at least $2000 for a 5 day stay if you fly, and double that if you plan to drive. Naturally you can do it cheaper, but assuming the cheap route is a good path to disaster.

Yep, hopefully one day you'll consider coming to an interstate event too, when you consider the sacrifices some of us make to do the same - like maybe a Toyota Show on the banks of the Swan River here in Perth (if I ever make the time to get all the parameters needed for such an event in place?!).

As I tell everyone who thinks I'm mad for making the trek over each year - I use it as a holiday where I catch up with friends, do a bit of sight seeing, generally enjoy myself, and have a car show and other automotive festivities thrown in for good measure, makes it cheap to me!

Its worth the trip. Been 2 years in a row now. And as Clint said, its a full on social holiday, not just a rock up to Toyofest then go home deal.

    That's assuming you don't sleep, because that's like $50 a person a night too.
