not sure if this is the correct thread to be asking this in but, the ae86 will be 30 in a few years and im considering building a replica of one of the groupa ae86's would this be considered for historic? just simple mods, that were done back in the day, 4age, period wheels like used in groupa.

    cheers,

    craig.

In regards to 'period accessories/modifications' being allowed on historic vehicles, does this mean that when the JZA80 is 30 years old we can have pimped out rocket ship 'historic' supras with big aftermarket engine mods?

    Hi,

cri_ag, good question. If the car is 30 yo and has all the period accessories, then I can't see it being an issue. However, in the New year we will discuss it at our Board Meeting.

egamirrorim, when the JZA80 makes the grand old age of 30 years, and assuming petrol is still available, then (under the current historic registration rules - NSW RTA) any "period" accessories that were available for the JZA80 would be applicable.

egamirrorim - the term is period accessories, not modifications.

Vehicles must be as close to original condition as possible, with NO alterations except for safety features such as seat belts and turn indicators or period accessories and options, if desired
Full details regarding Historic Registration can be found here which is also here.

This is why rivers yellow RA28 is on normal rego and the silver RA28 and RA25 are on Historic Rego.

That's why I ask, I believe the rules are intentionally vague and was hoping someone could clarify. What defines something as an accessory as opposed to a modification? I mean, there are historic cars around sporting aftermarket weber carbs, is that a mod or an accessory? Same question can be asked for a Mk4 Supra that has an aftermarket turbo for instance! What one person calls an accessory another might call a modification and vice verca. Now that the 30 year threshold for historic vehicles has entered the 80's this situation will come up more and more, cri_ag mentioned the AE86 which is a great example...

    Cri_ag,

If you can PM me a list of what you had in mind for the AE86 we would be happy to let you know if it would be acceptable.

    Hi,

There is no requirement to have a historic plated vehicle in a garage or off the street. It depends more upon your insurer, as opposed to the vintage/age of the car, as to whether the car is covered (for insurance purposes) for historic plates. The vehicle itself also has some bearing upon the matter. For example, an insurance company would probably be more adamant to have your 1967 $750k 2000GT parked in a secure place than they would for your $4k KE20.

yeah well that goes without saying lol! doubt anyone in their right mind would leave a 2000gt parked on the street

id probably do it for my corona but the only issue i have is the previous owner flared the gaurds and fitted a cd player in the dash where the ac vents were, fitted a tacho into the dash cluster surround and i had to fit an external oil cooler for the transmission because the lines on the radiator were broken off
but toyota possibly could have offered an extra oil cooler from factory for towing or is that just for falcons?
anyway if say i did move the cd player and find another cluster surround and being otherwise dead stock would the fact the gaurds have been a bit flared matter? its not obvious unless you have a stock panel next to it.

oh and its got jellybean mags on it atm but im restoring the factory rims which will be fitted with whitewalls theyre ok to use arent they?

    Hi,

We need to see pics or the car in person to determine how close it is to original and make a decision based upon that.
