look at (at least) audi90/100's for inspiration.

    and as for thermostat.....

will having one that opens at a lower temp really help when the engine is already hot?

thermostat is to prevent undercooling, not assist with overheating

maybe its cause its the 1uz sender unit with the hilux gauge

but i have come across this on afew toyotas

i run a trd 72 degree thermostat but then i also drilled small holes round the outside

to get bit more water flow too

earlier oopenin thermostats prob dont do much just that some of them have a bigger hole in the middle for more flow

    i have been told
if u look at std toyota one for a 1uz it has a small hole
a trident one to suit a 1uz has a bigger flow so u get more water flow

i just put the standard hilux temp sender into my 1j, pretty sure it was the same as the one that came out of the 1j though, works like a charm.

Having thought about this issue some more, i suspect that your fans may indeed be pushing the wrong way, causing no airflow as 'say' 20km/h on the return road?

have you jumped out and felt the radiator core when this has been happening? the thermostat should be well and truely wide open by 100deg, does it push coolant into the overflow?

how much for the trd thermostat and where did you get it.

hydrolic going back on is not an option, 6 bosch coils now live where the bottle res did.

    Good to hear.
He tells me he's been swamped this morning with interest and there won't be many left at this price as the new batch coming from Japan has gone up !

Would you still have the Hydraulic Fan ECU around and surplus to your needs? I'm looking into the differences between the Chaser, Supra and Aristo ones in the way they control the hydraulic fan and wouldn't mind one or two different ones to compare operation.

PM me if you do rather than go too much more off topic here.

AU's are 200-250 from a wrecker, or 250-350 genuine, depending on where you go and whether you get trade.

Be careful though, I've heard that there are some cheap knock off's from Taiwan that look identical, but the genuine ones are Bosch fans.

The pair of Magna fans cost me $90 from a wrecker. Normally they come as a split shroud that joins in the middle. One fan is an A/C fan and the other is the main cooling fan. I got two of the bigger ones and rivetted the two shrouds together.

the std gauges wont tell u much
    Hey Sideshow.
The reason why your guage does this is because its not supposed to move much until well over 110deg.
The factory thermo fan switch in the 80's 4-runners doesnt turn on till 110degC.

I'd assume that the Hilux guage is the same as the 4-runner guage.

I think the best measure of how much air a fan is going to pump is the power of the drive motor. Davies Craig 16 inch is a 19 Amp or about 220 Watt motor.

A fan belt driven fan can easily suck a few Horse power out of a motor. Thats more like 2000 Watts.

Consider this when comparing electric versus hydro, viscous or straight mechanical fans.
