Default 1JZ sump variations into RA28 with KE70 rack and pinion

    hey guys,
building up a ra28 with 1JZ conversion and ke70 Rack and pinion steering. just need some help with the 1JZ engine variations, and there sump set ups. from what ive gathered so far i need to run a front sump version.
i would love to use a VVTI version, and the latest year model possible.
can someone tell me what model and year will be best for this.

    cheers guys

You'll need a chaser motor or half cut. Take your pick jzx81, jzx90 or jzx100. The jzx100 motor is the vvti single turbo version.

The soarer and supra motors were all mid sump.

Front sumps kits are usually $250 if you ended up with a mid sump half cut. Does a non vvti 1jz sump and pan fit the vvti versions?

The R154 was used behind turboed engines.

in addition to 1jz it was also used behind turboed 7m's

i'm going through this right now. I thought i would have to go with a w58 gear box behind the 1jz cause a R154 box would not fit in the trans tunnel of a RA28 celica. Well thats why i thought sheepers went for a w55. Turns out after reading 77GZE thread, a R154 WILL fit a ra28 trans tunnel, with modification to the firewall to clear the flywheel housing, i.e. smashing it out with a hammer.

For the price of a W58 and a adaptor kit (flywheel, bellhousing, clutch, etc) to fit the 1jz i could have brought a R154.

Yup and you still have to bash the crap out of the opening of the trans tunnel anyway with the w58 because of the bellhousing!

yeah, but not as much as you'd think, only took an hour. I thought the r154 was going to be too wide more than any think. That was my main concern.

The conrods are different aswell, I presume that the pistons are different also for the different compression ratio.

The latest version of the 1JZ VVTi would be in the 2004 JZX110.

If you are fitting an R154 to an RA28 you will need to *massage* the tunnel for its entire length down to near the shifter where the box goes skinny again. Unless ofcourse you have mounted your engine hanging of the front of the car and the box hanging below the sills.
