    Default MS85 Fuel Pump.

    Hey guys,

I've decided to get my old MS85 4MCrown going again. I picked up a fuel pump from the wreckers as my old one was screwed, checked that it was working by hand, looked ok. Stuck it in the car, but my old man forgot how the old one was plugged in as we pulled it out like 2 years ago, I know there are 2 steel pipes coming out of the fuel pump, one being inlet and one being outlet. So I connected them all up, stuck some fuel down her guts, started up used the fuel in the carbie then died, tried it several times that left me scratching my nuts. With a closer inspection to the fuel pump, there is a hole that says "TO TANK" and by the looks of things maybe a copper piece screws in. I was just asking does anyone have any pictures of there 4M fuel pump setup?

    Cheers,

    Brad

    Thanks GT,

Would a 2M or anything be the same? I just need to know where the pipes go, I have a fair idea, but I need a picture to verify that I have them all in the right spot so I can rule out the fuel pump as my issue.

    Cheers GT

EDIT: Mine might have emissions :S

No pics, but the feed line from the tank goes to the fitting on the fuel pump closest to the front of the engine. The other goes up to the carby. The other hole that says "to tank" should be blanked off so disregard as the fuel return is from the carby.

    Cheers.

    Hey Guys,

Well I went out and had a look at it, I found that there is 2 steel fuel lines, 1 is going to the carbie, and the other is connecting with the fuel pump closest to the front, then from the other outlet on the fuel pump it has a hose with filter also connected to the carbie, so I tried to fire it over and it just uses the fuel I stick in the carbie then dies, I took both the hoses of the steel lines and turned it over and no fuel is coming out of them, what could this be? Blockage?

    Any help would be good,

I'll try and get pics but my mum is away.

    Cheers,

    Brad

    Fuel pump could be knackered.
    No fuel in the tank.
A blockage in one of the fuel lines.
    Needle stuck in carby.
Run some fuel directly into the pump to get it wet and it may pump better.
Force some fuel through the pump (oil can approach) to get the internals wet.

If it has been sitting for quite a while it will take a bit to pull fuel up through dry lines and pump. Get an oil can or similar and fill the fuel bowl through the small brass tubes at the top of the carby. This will get it running for a bit longer and may pull up the fuel.

Well went out there, got it set up, stuck fuel down the places crownv8 told me to, turned the motor over, uses the fuel in the carbie that I stuck there then dies, pulled the pump out got it looked at, it apparently works fine. The fuel lines are fine I think, we ran compressed air down it, and it bubbled at the back. But the guy at the mechanic place said to check the filter at the back of the crown? Anyone know where this is? I tried looking in the boot where the fuel tank is located but to no avail. So I'm left with needle stuck in carbie/blockage along somewhere.

    Thanks again,

There is no filter at the back of the car. There is a strainer in the tank, but they don't normally give any problems.

You could try blowing compressed air into the fuel tank. Use a rag to take up the slack with the air gun in the filler neck. Must be careful not to over pressure it!!! Just try short bursts of air until fuel runs out the front then connect the pump back up and make sure fuel flows thought the pump and finally connect the carby up and in theory you should be up and running.

Are you sure the pump you have is okay????

Yeah, I took it off and took it to a mechanic and he supposedly said it was working. I'll try what you told me crownv8! Your the most helpful person I've met on these forums top stuff
