Im doing some research to whether a true trac center for a landcruiser (g series diff) will fit into an open center g series diff on an mx83 cressida.
There is plenty of info here about putting irs centers into live axle centers, i.e ma70 into hilux etc, and there has been a few example that it can be done (sillycars i think?), however im struggliing to find info for the other way around.
I have read there are some issues such as:
- pinion to far away from crownwheel
- swirl type groove cut into the spline where the halfshaft goes, for oil to move around doesnt exist in live axle
- the irs centre has a groove for circlips that hold the halfshaft axles in, and again the solid doesnt
From doing some research i have found that you can use a spacer to move the crown wheel out further, so that will fix that problem (if there is such an issue)
I have no idea about the groove for the oil in the spline! Does anybody have an irs center that can confirm this?
I cant make sense of the circlip grooves being in the actual center. I would assume they would be on the halfshaft itself, but i have absolutely no idea, and i cant have a look at my own one without pulling it all apart!
Can anybody confirm any of these things? Or has anybody tried to do this before and succeeded?
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers
