It shouldnt be too hard mate
Just consider all the things you would need to change( radiator, tailshaft, engine mounts, ecu and wiring) work out a price it will cost and then double it because thats what it will really cost.
At least with a sr20 you will have heaps of room for a radiator which is a luxury i dont have at the moment.

Be sure you know what you're looking for when the project's finished, that's a huuuugely different motor you're looking at...

Off boost driving, power delivery, torque.

What do you mean? What will it be used for?

    One is a 2L 4 cylinder, one is a 3L 6 cylinder.

SR will have little off boost torque and will be pretty useless at any load carrying/towing I would be thinking.

2J will have more off boost torque, more torque everywhere, and will be fine at towing/load carrying. Will more than likely have more overall power too.

To me, it sounds like you haven't given it very much thought.

I'd sit down and do some careful thinking for a while. SR20 will go in MUCH easier, and will happily fufil tyre-killing duties, but it will never have the seamless torque or effortless power of a 2JZ. You're also looking at a lot more money for the 2J, plus install costs etc etc.

For the SR20, I'd budget 6-7k if you can do a reasonable amount of it yourself, and maybe 8-10 for the 2JZ. Honestly, I'd be more looking at:

    1UZ (if it fits)
1JZ (much cheaper and easier to get)
1VZ or 3VZ (would be an awesome street motor, but not as much power potential as the turbo options)

Also, I'd consider the 2JZ GTE to be a bit overpowered for a hilux, it'll be an appalling thing to drive, and unless you're really stuck on the hilux thing, I'd just buy a supra

do you have any mechanical knowledge besides knowing the engine codes?
budget?....double it if your deoing it yourself, tripple it if your paying someone.
    things to do:
sump mods, (if needed....or find the correct sump position)
    wiring
fuel system, pumps, surge tank, fuel lines,
mounts, engine and gearbox will need to be fabricated
    intercooler,
    exhaust,

thats a basic list....theres alot of little things that add up very quickly that you cant include as you dont know you need then till you need them..............

Dellow has an adapter bellhousing to mount the R-series trans behind the 1UZ or 2UZ.
