3sge exhaust for SW20

I was looking around for some extractors/headers to replace the stock units on my MR2. I've been unable to find any in the exhaust books or locally for the SW20 3s-ge (2.0L). I have however found on flea-bay some OBX 4-2-1 units that will fit the SW20 5s-fe (2.2L).
The other alternative i've got is to go custom 4-2-1, which isn't totally bad, as i'll get something that i've had a say in its design (I'm friends with the owner of the only good exhaust shop of our area), none the less it'll still mean i'm without the car for a week, he did suggest the 3sge headers for other cars might fit but to research 1st. Only other contact i have yet to chase up is one of dad's friends' sons races SW20's in new zealand... see if he has access to one.

Ideally, Does anyone here know of any off the shelf headers for the 3sge in Oz. if not, will the manifold for the celica, corona, camry (lexus altezza) with the 3sge fit, or from american SW20's with the 5s-fe, or other cars with same engine? Surely someone out there has a non-turbo MR2 with an exhaust on it.

to be honest i think were stuck with custom 4-2-1 jobs as ive also hunted and hunted for decent systems for the 3SGE to no avail.

however do NOT get the OBX system. its a piece of shit, not all that dissimilar from the SSAutochrome ones..

if you find anything keep me in the loop too as im also looking!

won't the ones fromt he gen1 3sge fit? i am pretty sure they will, they suit the 3sge, 3sfe, but i am pretty sure they also fit the 5sfe. if they fit that i don't see whay they wouldn't fit the 3sge gen2. go to an exhaust shop and ask about the genie extractors for a 3sge ST162 celica

no... gen 1 and 2 are interchangeable from what i remember... gen 3 is completely different... and gen 4 completely different again...

there was a thread on this not too long ago...

[EDIT: Oops i just read clearly what u wrote.. Gen 2 are a superior header though, why would you go down to a Gen 1 header that will be more restricting?]

Ok, You think the ST162 headers might be a winner? I'll see what i can find. If not then i guess either custom or see if i can get some from NZ... TRD don't/didn't make any by chance?

I just bought a 3S-GE powered '2 and have been looking into this a bit.

edit: I should mention also that the OBX header actually has quite a good reputation among the 5S-FE guys in the US. I'm considering giving it a chance.

if you end up getting the fujitsubo header can you take a photo of the actual header and post it??

reason is that it says on that site that its for 89-93 MR2's equipped with the 3SGE, so gen II 3SGE in other words, its not supposed to be interchangeable with my gen III one (93+).. just want to have a look at some good close up photos and compare any differences from my stock header..

I know Levos1 has ordered these and is getting them fitted really soon, if not already, I'd PM him for pics, they look really good though. I had some extractors on my 2 when I had it, but they came with the car, so I have no idea what they were

I recently took delivery of my Fujitsubo Super Ex header for my MR2 - here's some pics:









This header is the only 'off the shelf' one i know of for rev1/2 MR2's... if you have a rev3+ MR2 then the only companies i know of who make headers are Tanabe and Pheonix Power - although the Pheonix Power one doesn't come with the b-pipe.

man that fujitsu header looks balls! shit i had no idea tanabe made gen III headers.. i might have to go hunting for them now!

I ended up not bothering with the headers, pulled off the heat shielding... what's this factory tuned length headers, all mandrel bent, with a patented collector (facing the right way). We decided to not worry with headers. The factory ones either come with the gen 3, or the bathurst gen 3 (what i've got), not much point then. the whole exhaust looked like it was 2 piece, from the primaries to the flange for the cat was all one piece, then the cat to the tips was one piece. Also found out it had a hiflow cat on it too, the only thing wrong with the system was the muffler. At the moment i'm building up a gen3 turbo for an eng swap, might take some pics of the headers when the current motor is out.
