Not much you can do about it but
Hi all,
Just stumbled across a thread in the classifieds which I consider blatant profiteering... The item in question is being advertised as an ebay ad, at a price more then 4 times it's average value. Moreover the advertiser has regularly advertised parts at significantly inflated prices. I can't find a rule against this behaviour, and i know it would be virtually impossible to police, so i guess this post is less a request to change anything, and more just a post to winge... Is there ANYTHING that can be done about it? I guess at the end of the day, being an ebay auction it's up to the bidders to decide the final price. But it's easy enough to lure ignorant buyers into bidding for something worth half as much as they're about to pay...
Am i alone here? thoughts anyone?

rep doesn't mean anything to anyone who can already sell stuff... neg rep just says "i'm not happy Jan!"
i think it is more about "is profiteering and charging high prices in the spirit of toymods"... then again.. for non-toymods members.. why should they care..... hmm
what might be a high price for one person, might be reasonable for another....
but when the prices is double the usual market or alternative source price.. i spose they might have to push hard (or talk up rarity) to make a sale anyway...
then again, if you eren7t allowed to rip off suckers.. aussie business and stockmarket wouldn7t make any money

As long as you individually lick every single one of them.Originally Posted by RAd28

if you know someone is trying to rip off fellow toymodders i would be happy for you to post in their for sale thread to alert me and others.
i would then give that person POSITIVE rep.
of course it weould be better to show an example somwhere (anywhere) of the product for sale at a more reasonable price to compare.

Yeah, the problem is that you'd be breaking the old "don't post anything critical" rule then... and two wrongs don't make a right.
Sheesh... am I getting mature or what!!!
actually two wrongs DO make a right coz its a double negative

Hi,
And two (w)rights make an aeroplane!
Regarding advertising... if it is something in someone's sig and it is pointing to something they are selling, and allowed to sell, in Toymods, then that is deemed okay. If it is pointing to a "for sale" in another forum or web-site, then we look at it. I'm sure that's how it goes.
Anyway, if there is anything suspect or you want checked, please let the Board or the mods know and we will look at it.

River - I was under the impression that the boards view on advertising of any kind was taboo... I'm sure i read in your sig at some stage "now targeting sigs with advertising..."
what about a wanted or for sale with no link at all? what's the boards stance on the subject?

And what are the thoughts on starting a thread in the for sale section, to post a link to your own ebay ad with no price for sale on here?
Unfortunately it seems to be a way to get around the 'no auction' rule.
a few people have been doing that lately....
maybe board can make a ruling on having links to ebay auctions.. particularly if the price listed as "for sale price" in toymods.. is unrealistically high such that people will bid on the auctions instead...
what service is there to toymods to alert people to something you are offering for the rest of the world to increase the price on?
