whats the factory power output of the two engines? it would probably hold up alright if you just drove the car like its supposed to be driven, but im guessing if you are putting a bigger more powerful engine in the car you intend to give it some stick sometimes.
i would think the cost of a custom bellhousing would be more than the cost of a gearbox anyway.

depends on condition problem is gettin the box to bolt to the engine finding a bellhousing etc for that could be difficult i suggest finding a rb25/rb20 etc box and doing it that way

yeh it was just a thought as engine was at right price. any other engine you would think would be good in a van for a rather cheap price. we can full rebuild for 440 or do an engine conversion.

There's a few people doing some interesting stuff with vans lately (we're copying the Japanese here)
I'd recommend try to find a Nissan box to go with the engine (maybe even an Aussie spec R31 skyline box might be comptible- try a Nissan or Skyline forum to check) to save the hassle of bellhousing issues.

Is the van a manual or auto?
If its a manual, how are the gearshift linkages/cables setup?
Is this going to be compatible with a Nissan box (or most RWD boxes) where the shifter is fitted directly into the top of the box?
An auto would be much easier as its just a simple cable which any cable doctor could make for you.
If it's a manual, you may be stuck with the original box because of this.

van's a manual but we have chosen a different route. we shall rebuild his engine even though it has only 164000 km on it. It blew a head gasket and has compression issues so we shall rebuild and make stronger. My parents pay for his van's rebuild i pay for full sports exhaust including extractors.
