    Default 1j vvti ecu/box/manifold Q's

Hey just a couple of questions from a beginner.

Is there any issues using an ecu that was running 1j & auto, with a 1j & r154 box
or the other way around? (so pretty much auto to manual gbox change)

And what turbo flange did the single turbo vvti 1j's come with

    Cheers cone

No issues running the manual box with an auto ECU. If you had a manual ECU, you wouldn't be able to run the auto though.

    Thanks mate,

Thats what i thought the case may be...

What about the turbo manifold? Is the flange a t3 or 4 pattern? or a toyota style thing?

What is the factory turbo on one of these vvti motors? the motor in question is missing its turbo.. so considering options, ie can we bolt a gt35 onto the factory manifold.... or do we need a new manifold too. i'm assuming non-vvti are the same exhaust pattern...

they came with a ct15b. Its a toyota thing so you'll either need to modify or change the manifold for a t3 or t4 turbo or find an original turbo.

Yeah the turbo has a toyota specific flange. HKS did do a bolt on turbo upgrade for them though and in theory the HKS stuff is all just Garrett with a sifferent badge so maybe talk to the Garrett guys about whether they have a turbine housing that will fit it. The turbo's HKS used are basically GT28RS and GT3076R.

Here is the kit for sale http://www.nengun.com/hks/turbo-kit-gt-sports-pro

The picture on that page is the JZX100 kit so if you zoom in you can see the flange shape, it's not like any of the common aftermarket turbos really.

    thanks guys,

Thats the info i was after...

I hadn't seen a toyota turbo with a standard flange, i just remembered seeing an add on here for a vvti turbo, when someone asked for the manifold, he said he was keeping it. Seemed a strange thing to keep without easy upgrades....

there is a jzx100 (1jzvvti) turbo manifold on ebay with the standard flange on it. you could buy this one and change the flange to a t3?

are they a cast manifold? a bit difficult to get a good weld to change the flange... perhaps an adaptor...

The vehicle we are looking at has a vvti 1j with manifold, just no turbo. so we are considering what turbo set up to go for. a factory one would be fine and suit the power aims for a while at least - but if they are hard to find, considering what the options would be, as need to take into account on the purchase price.

stainless steel manifold, that why i suggested it. It would be easier to cut and weld it and you could also move the flange up a bit because with my motor and stock turbo there is a bee's dick space between the bottom of the turbo and the engine mount so i dont know how you'd go with a adaptor plate?

    Oh well, thats heaps better...

Do you have a pic in your build up thead?

are they a high or a low mount manifold?

    Thanks for the info mate,

i dont think there is a close up pic of the clearance but there is alot of experience cursing and swearing trying to get to that bolt every time the motor comes out

The manifold is a low mount, it is a direct replacement for the cast manifold only alot shinier and made of steel.

Im not sure and have been meaning to ask the question myself but would the ct26 (7m or 3s) turbo have the same turbo bolt pattern as the ct15b?

thanks stew for getting the ball rolling
I was thinking that would be the case with the gearbox and ecu but nice to know for sure.
