hi just doing some research for my bro inlaw.

    hes got a st162 with a stuffed 3s-ge 1st gen.
and i was wonedering how hard would it be to get a camry 5sfe, put the 3s-ge head on it and install that in the celica. what else is needed and how hard will it be?

how about other gen 3s-ges do they need new looms and computors?

    cheers rn-85

gen3 is a completly diff setup.

one of my mates has done the 5s-ge. This is the toymods thread for it, his username is Toy-T-18. The proper writeup is on www.ozcelica.com but this has the important bits.

later generation 3S-GEs will bolt straight in, you can use the existing 1st gen manifolds and sensors to run them, but to get any real gains you will need to use them as a complete setup including computer.

The easiest option for your mate will be to replace with an identical 3sge.

If he wants a serious upgrade look at going a complete gen2 or gen3 package out of an SW20 (computer and all). Mechanically its an easy swap, a little more complicated with the wiring, but has been done many many times before.

cheap is more important than any thing else at this stage. so may just find an gen1 3s-ge and put that in.

exhuast amnifolds will work but gen2+ 3sge's dont have T-VIS so you cant use the inlet manifold. yes it will bolt on but it wont line up with the ports correctly and be horribly restrictive.

you are probably right, as i said its pretty much pointless to use a gen 2/3 block and head unless you are using the rest of the components as designed.

rn-85, just find another plug-n-play identical 1st gen, job will be done in a day and cost bugger all.
