The first thing I would look at, would be whether both are Solid or independant front suspension.... I would think that there may be a chasis difference if that were the case....
I am not saying that would be the only concern, but that would be what I would look at first....

I would also think that an Engineers certificate would be needed... (changing number of seats not to mention body change).... for a car worth five or six grand, I would struggle to see the point in doing this...

so i take it you are just mounting the hilux cab to the same year 4runner. I'm pretty sure the front cab mounts would be the same, but the rear would be further back on the 4 runner. This is from memory it is a while since i have seen a body swap between to two.

I've seen it done the other way around. 4 runner body dropped onto a 2wd hilux chassis to build a low rider/minitrucker sort of deal.

Saw it parked up in Coffs Harbour once and had a bit of a chat with the driver, who said although it wasn't a total bolt on, it was quite an "easy" swap. Most mounting points fitted up well, and all the drivelin etc fitted perfectly. Car was engineer approved for the swap and was rego'd as a 5 seater hilux with modified body, seating and suspension configuartions.

A mate of mine just finished a single cab onto a 4runner chassie. I don't believe it was too hard to do although a 4runner chassie is shorter and you need to use an extra cab tray if you wanted to retain a styleside. doing a lowrunner on a single cab chassie involves shortening the chassie changing mounting points at the rear and i believe also cutting into the floor where the chassie hoop is just in front of the fuel tank

i like the idea of having a short wheel base hilux.
so the cab should bolt straight up??

    could i use a cab from a 2wd??

I'm pretty sure it did. i think that the only issue may have been the tray mounts didn't all align up. It's alot cheaper to go the way you want and if you find someone interested in the 4runner body for a 2wd conversion you could do it reasonably cheaply too. I can find out more information tomorrow though.

Finally spoke to my mate about the swap and only the front bolts for the chassie up to the base of the firewall will match. the rear cab mounts will need to be cut or fabricated to work.
