    Default Thread searching options

Okay guys and gals I need some help with searching the forums. Seems everytime I do a search of the forums for something most of the keywords I use are omitted due to the number of hits they produce. Also when I try to refine the search I tend to get results for each individual keyword not just threads that contain all desired key words.
Is there some sort of wildcards (+,&,> etc) that can be used to ensure only posts that meet all keywords are shown? If so is there a list of the wildcards with description of there usage?
