    Default customers are always right.

how do destroy an engine in 5 steps.

    1) temp gauge is creeping up.... it will be ok
    2) temp is at its max ..... it hasnt stoped yet, ill keep going
3)getting sluggish..... but still hasnt stoped yet it must be fine
    4) geez its getting noisy.... maybe it will pass
    5) bang grind grind bang..... i wonder how long i can drive whilst its making this noise.

and you end up with something like this....

whoops i swear it was fine and then it just stopped hehehe.
    i love customers.

the rod is out of a 4.6 ROVER v8.

fuck me!!!!!!! thats a keeper though. should keep that on display in the workshop to help sell oil changes and that sort of stuff. ie show the customer and say this is what will happen to your motor if you dont come to us and get your car serviced every 5000km.

    the metal seems rather ductile

maybe you can offer to buy off them for $10 after they finish showing off their stupidity to their mates?

    ^^

i'll take one.. to study metals and stuff...

i knew the rovers were prone to overheating and stuff, and had weak internals.. but to keep running to cause this damage.. hmm.. even toyota engine would stop running before it became irrepairable?

so do you have 8 fooked rods to sell or what? pistons too?

i was amazed how long the small end streched and didnt break.

I'll call him on monday, lucky i got pix of it before he took it.

nah only the rod fell out hehe funny hey, the hole in the block was tiny so this only just sqeezed threw.

the owner told us to sell it so we got rid of it within 2 days its got nothing to do with us anymore, except that conrod i hopefully get.

Good rods are amazingly tough - Whenever they let go, it's most common for the rod bolt to let go, and then the rod.
I always find it nearly unbelieveable the loads that rods & pistons undergo ..... thousands of G's without complaint.

Could it be that the extra heat it was experiencing helped to increase its ductility?
