    Default AE86 Axle upgrade needed...

    Hi Everyone.

I need to know what Toyota off roaders came with a solid axle with close to these specs.

-approximately 55.5inches in width hub to hub

    -4 x 114.3 or close (5x114.3 would do)
-LSD (or that can take a stock clutch plate type LSD)
-Disc brakes (or an axle that is commonly converted to discs)
-4.3, 4.77 or better CW&P ratio (or an axle that can take CWP swaps)

If the axle does no come with the final 4 specs above I need to at least be able to convert it to something close.
Metal fabrication is not a problem, AE86 shell prepping is a livelihood.

The axle is to be used on a high power N/A AE86 Corolla for competition use.
I want to keep the car Toyota!!

Ive checked out this and some other diff code sites but Im still without lots of important info.

Ive seen this HiLux -> Corona conversion doc.

anyone got an AE86 specific story.

    All help appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

RN55, etc. Hilux 2WD is your friend. The width is correct, there's plenty of gears available (well into mountain goat range), different kinds of LSD (both factory and aftermarket, lockers, whatever you want really) and while they have big fat drum brakes, it's not too hard to fix that. Do some searching and you should find plenty about it.

Oh, and stick with 2WD versions - 5 stud is quite useful, whereas the 6 stud 4WD version would likely be a bit of a pest to find wheels for in a hurry...

A highpower N/A hachi.. Even with 190rwhp should be ok with a stock rearend (our Aussie sprinters came with an S series rearend). Mine runs a turbo and its 150rwkw (200hp) and it held up to abuse ok. It currently runs a T18 rearend (t-series drum). Which is slightly beefier.. Sure a hilux rearend would be unbreakable but keep in mind those things weight a LOT more than a stockrearend. This would be ok if its going to be a turbo drag car. But in N/A form Id say youd notice a huge difference in handling and speed.

Irish sprinters came with the T series disks correct? (just like jap ones?) if anything just get them cryo treated.

Between coming off jumps on full throttle, slidnig on uneven surfaces, and cornering on 2 wheels from cutting corners then dropping back to earth etc breaking T282/T283 axles is easy peasy when rallying around Ireland.

Its the axle shaft thats that are the main culprits.
The idea is to use a close ratio final drive, 4.77, 4.8, 5.1 or whatever we can get into the hilux axles. Axle mass will be greater but the quicker final drive should help overcome this no end.

Handling the new weight distribution, Ill leave that to the driver

Been looking at the EPC to check axle part numbers etc.
    Anyone got pics of a 2WD RN55?

What about an F-series diff? That's what i'm putting in my ae86. It's still got fairly large axles (27mm or so) and would be lighter than the G-series. Depending on which car you get the diff from you might have to convert them to disks. This is one option:

Also may be a little difficult to find a ratio higher than 4.1...

Most of the info needed for widths and the cars you can get them from can be found here:

What wheels are folks using on their g-series conversions? There is plenty available new... but I'm hoping to fund a junkyard set to tide me over until I'm willing to spend more cash. There are plenty of cars with the 114x5 bolt pattern, but most are FWD and use really high offsets... maybe I just need to use spacers on some of those. Can anyone suggest a factory alloy with the right offset?
