7AG using RB26 bearings?
Was looking thru a japanese car magazine yesterday and they had a 7AG build up...
one thing that caught my eye was they used RB26 bearings for crank or mains (not sure which)..
anyone heard of that before?

Just measured some cranks i had lying around.
The RB25 and RB26 has a 48mm (47.968mm - 47.974mm) rod journal
RB30 has a 50mm(aprox) rod journal.
RB26 has a main journal size of 54.951mm - 54.975mm.
Main bearing clearance on RB26 from .0025- .0045"
Main bearing shell thickness from 1.818mm - 1.830mm depending on bearing grade stamped on end of crank
Rod bearing clearance tolerance on the rb25/26 is .0020-.0039
Rod Bearing shell thickness is 1.500mm-1.506mm depending on bearing grade stamped on end of crank.

no idea Bill, i just saw it mentioned (with a fair bit of writing abotu it in japanese) and thought i'd put it out there.
main thing that looked different from the pics was th position of the tabs at the end of each half shell...
maybe there is a larger range of RB26 aftermarket bearings available in Japan compared to 7A (which would have basically no support at all)
no idea of the benefits, but i've never heard anyone else mention it before.

What's the bearing/insert/shell width of the RB26 rod compared to the 4/7A mains & rear, and thanks Jeffro ra28. More choices for sizing/grading or maybe they want a smaller bearing for a little low power-high RPM benefit or want a non-groove/modified/handmade groove in it for some bullshit reason or maybe its really just the thrust washers/bearings?
