Just wondering why you want to IRS your celica? Is it for handling or just wow factor. RT142 IRS isnt the best IRS to use in the first place and i found it doesnt handle as well as the live axle (in an RT142)
SOLD : 1GGTE Rt142 Corona - Twin TD04-9b turbos - 180rwkw = 13.1 @105mph
Not so much for the wow factor just don't want to follow suit and go Lux or Volvo direction
and i like IRS.

RT142 is about 1480mm wide or something isn't it?
That's just silly, and you'll probably never be able to get it engineered as the track increase couldn't be solved with postive wheel offset like other diff conversions... Let alone the fact that the RT142 IRS isn't worthy of the effort involved in installing it!

non IRS corona is around 1430mm wide
SOLD : 1GGTE Rt142 Corona - Twin TD04-9b turbos - 180rwkw = 13.1 @105mph
IRS RT142 is probably around the same then...
That would mean you'd have to have a +32.5 offset on a 7" wheel just to run within the guard... Possible, but still a pointless exercise...
Agreed. If you want IRS and are willing to go through all this pain, at least use a decent wishbone IRS system (eg S13 Silvia). The semi trailing arm system in the RT142 is poo.

I've done this conversation. Not that hard. Did it at home myself.
In terms of the semi trailing IRS being poo. MA61, RT142, MX73 all share a very similar IRS, i think the only difference is wheel track and sway bar mounting locations.
Holden kept it in use from VS until VZ and changed at the complete new VE.
It gives me an F sreies diff so LSD will be eaiser to get my hands on and stronger than the T series. My car at this stage is puting out 210hp and only weights 1150kg so this is a big enough diff. one of the other issue is the camber when lowered. I am going to combat this with some offset bushes soon.
This is the thread I started.

Not to rain on your parade, but really, if you're going to the effort of a conversion like this you may as well fit a better IRS. Semi-trailing arms are pretty historic. Why not something multilink like S13 or R32 rear end?
Would the S13 or R32 rear suspension setups require a lot of cutting and welding to accomodate upper mounting points or is it a similar brace and bolt on deal?
Also would an RA60 IRS be narrower or wider than the RT142?
Glen
RA60 doesn't come with IRS from memory...
RA65 does, but it is the same as the RT142 one anyway...
Yes.
RA60 = solid axle
SA63 = IRS, T-series, drum
RA65 = IRS, F-series, drum.
MA61 = IRS, F-series, disc. Same arms as RT142 IRS, F-series, disc as far as I know, though I don't know if RT1542 got vented. Wilbo66 would know, he has RT142 arms in his MA61, and I have RT142 arms going into my RA65.The brake stuff swaps over anyway...
RT142 discs are non vented type
also, xZ1x soarers share the same rear end as the MA61
Ok, well I believe the MA61 vented discs and & calipers swap onto RT142 fine.
I seem to remember xZ1x has wider track.
