    egg on face
sure the cap fits on fine. but NOOOOOO. one of the screws is 3.2mm out
what IS interesting is the Echlin EP759 cap DOES fit the 100kw dizzy, however, where the leads plug in on the 759 cap are bigger than on the 100kw dizzy cap.

this is seriously doing my head in

anyone have an ae82 dizzy complete with cap for sale for a 4AGE :|

    Have had this trouble before,

there are 2 versions on the early bluetop dist.

    RWD and FWD from memory,

The 100KW smallport cap take the small 5mm leads,

The bigport red top cap has leads the all face up,

and there are two other versions of dist cap.

Get the number off the dist and go to toyota,
they can tell what vechile it is out of, and what cap suits.

In the end that's what I did to get a cap that fitted.

Yeah, actually had the car running with just one screw in the cap,
but thought it best to get the right one.

It's not out by far, just enough to piss you off.

Dont know about your A$ prices, but i think I paid just less than $40nz for the genuine cap, but it was for a job I was doing not mine, so just passed the price onto the owner.

yeah, thats the one. EXACT same problem with my cap. one screw short.
i'd prefer to do it the right way, i got my vernier out and confirmed everything lines up and works OK with the cap in the right place, but, like you say - just enough to p1ss you off.

i'll see how i go with yota tommorow on the proviso i get out of work on time.

the correct cap for this application according to bosch via the part number is a GD826
this dizzy is from a Toyota Sprinter with 4AGE - not an AE82 4AGE

the good news is bosch (au) don't have stock nor make this dizzy cap
FWIW the toyota part number is 19101-16040

trying to cross reference it to something else before going to toyota (last resort)

Here we go ; heres' my correspondance with Bosch
In short, neither Bursons nor Repco have stock of dizzy (and they both tell me that Bosch also do not)
My local Toyota dealer can get the cap (quoted by the part number below) and thats $54 but its 2 weeks away in Japan.

    Hello Greg

Thanks for this information, that makes it much easier. According to my documentation the correct Bosch distributor cap part number for this distributor should be a GD826. This is the equivalent to Toyota distributor cap part number 19101-16040.

    Good luck with it!
Also FYI, the correct Bosch rotor part number for this distributor is a GD802, equivalent to Toyota distributor rotor part number 19102-16040.

    Regards
    Ross

Ross, further to this, I’ve just been checking and NO the Echlin 759 cap whilst it fits fine, one of the screws is still out by 3.2mm. So ignore that reference as it is incorrect.

I will keep investigating if you could do same from your end I would most appreciate it (this is starting to do my head in)

    Ross, Hi
Did Bob also forward on the picture I sent through?

    To answer your questions ;

    1. My car is a Ta22 running a motor sourced from a Australian delivered AE82 Toyota twin cam hatch.
    2. It is 100% a 4AGE twin cam Toyota motor
    3. Absolutely, the Toyota part number is 19100-16040 with a Nippondenso ref of 029100-9520

I have another Nippondenso distributor from an AW11 MR2 (Australian delivered) – I tried the same dizzy cap on that with the same result as my AE82 distributor.

I’ve sourced an Echlin distributor cap (as I want to get my car running) – that’s stamped as an EP759.
That is a completely different design of cap – the leads come out at a right angle to the dizzy as opposed to the leads on the GD687 coming straight out of the top of the dizzy.
This also fits both my distributors fine.

I was thinking perhaps the wrong cap had been put in the box when I bought it from Bursons, but, we confirmed the picture of the cap (with the breather) was correct in the book.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need any more information

    Many Thanks

    Greg

Subject: Bosch GD687 Distributor Cap issue

    Dear Greg

RE: Bosch GD687 Distributor Cap issue

Bob Tait has referred your query to me. We have received the photograph of the cap fitment issue. I have a couple of initial questions:

    1. Is your vehicle an Australian built AE82 Corolla? What is the year of manufacture?
    2. Is it definitely a 4AGE engine, not a 4AF?
    3. Is it possible for you to identify your distributor? Is there a Toyota or any OEM part number stamped on the body of the distributor itself?

If you could confirm the distributor details this would be a great help.

    Best regards
    Ross

got distributor cap today. fits PERFECTLY
    is a bosch item 1 987 233 031 is the part number
it looks NOTHING like the ae82 or ae92 one - the leads come out the top of the cap!

the best bit about this ; is BOSCH were good enough to supply me the cap for free. thats right i didn't pay a cent.

    When you say up,

do the HT leads push in from the LH side of the car, or do they push down onto the dist from above when the dist is in the engine?

    Any numbers on the dist?

It's the AW11 cap. Replaced mine on the weekend, looked just like the one in the picture.

Good work Greg. I had just attempted to put the same Bosch cap on my sisters AE82 (Cap number: GD687). I told her Supercheap Auto gave her the wrong one and sent her back up the road, as I waited I thought I'd pop onto Toymods for a browse and found this thread haha. Saved her ordering another wrong set in.

So to obtain the correct distributor cap I just order the Bosch 1 987 233 031? I cant find that product number in their catalogue though?

Also as for spark leads the ones Supercheap Auto told my sister to get say "4AC" on the label, not 4AGE. Are the spark plug leads interchangable between the 2 engines?

    howieau. whoah son

the GD687 *may* be suitable for your sis AE82.
it turns out my dizzy is an AE86 item - AE82 and AE86 quite different.
i reckon your AE82 dizzy may have the leads pointing up.

anyway a picture tells a thousand words ; this is what it looks like
