    Default sourcing 4afe pistons

ok people I am looking to source some later model 4afe pistons but according to toyota they are no longer available which I think is just stupid seeing the engine was made for 6 years and not that long ago.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get some or something aftermarket as a replacement?

was this sales chick wrong in the first place though?

I dont want to use acl/mahle as I hear they have some reliabilty issues and these will be pushed to 9000 RPM.

I will put a wanted add in for some second handies if I have to but I wanted to see if theres any other options available.

would toyota have spare long/short motors around ? i have this wierd feeling they still had some 7afe long motors around and were quite cheap. just a thought.

What is the part number for the pistons you are after???? There may be a set or more out in the market somewhere. As an example... I expect to get my set of largeport(18mm pin) 10 to 1 OEM pistons any day now.......

toof: never would of thought they would have any but if they did it would one hell of a wate to pull apart a new engine just for the pistons. Also I cant use the 7A pistons because the bowl volume is too large so it would have to be specificly a 4A piston. Thanks for the sujestion though.

grega: thanks but even though the piston top is of a superior shape the 4afc had a deeper dish and a press in 18 pin, I need a 20mm floater.

allencr: intentional pun? BTW its not for a 4afe engine (strickly speaking)

oldeskewltoy: these pistons your getting whats the story with them? so they are factory but to a non original specificaions?

so im assuming you arnt using the 4af block either ?

i only bring it up becasue im pretty sure they had some 7af long/short motors around and they were pretty cheap. certinaly alot cheaper then the sum of the parts..

    just food for thought.

just take some used ones down to sps in dandenong as samples and get some new forged pistons made up to the bowl volume and etc that you want
should only be 1200 dollars or so with rings

$1300 with rings and that gets me a piston crown of my choice. It looks like I am able to use 20V pistons if I make new flycuts on the intake side so I will be going with that.

    Thanks for the help guys

Sam.... they ARE original equipment.... in Singapore and in some areas of Europe.

An interesting fact.... there were only 2 markets that got 4AGE engines(1985-87)... some areas in Europe, and Singapore. Those two markets got 10 to 1 pistons. ALL other markets got 4AGEC engines, which used 9.4 to 1 pistons.

an assumption.... I'm also pretty sure(haven't proven this yet....) those two markets were the only 2 markets NOT to use a catalyst.
