Default Transmission - Fix auto or get Manual

    Hello,

In the near future I will have to end up doing something about my transmission problem.
    I have a GZ20 Soarer with a 1g-gte and a A340E.

The engine would rev but the car just wont go as much as the engine revs. It's so hard to keep it driving at a constant speed.

    So my options are

    1. Get the Automatic Transmission fixed.

    2. Get it converted to Manual.

For Option number 2. How should I go about this to end up getting the cheapest deal?

As for option 1, roughly how much will it cost, and will it stuff up again quickly or stay in good nick for a while?

    I'm in Perth.

    Thanks.

Thankyou for the fast response, Jeeze thats a lot, I think it would be more since my car is an import.

That makes me think about getting it converted to a manual, but dont know how to go about that.

If its the 1g... why not just a 1G manual bell housing from an import dude (no idea how much they go for) and a w55, shouldn't cost over 500 from ur local u-pull-it yard.
1 full day workin with a mate with the right tail-shaft and you'd be sweet...
About $1200~$1500 (inc. clutch assembly/pedalbox) should see the manual conversion

    (i think )

replace the a340e, people GIVE them away for FREE, or for next to nothing.

Manual conversions arent cheapest way to do anything. You need -
    Clutch depending on type $500+
    Bellhousing for 1g-w58 $???
    Finding a w58 $500+
    pedal box $???
    Shifter $???
    clutch master+slave cyl $???

Those are just for a start!

size up a MX83 box. ~should~ be the same (compare input shaft specs)

they are on the newer end of the a340e production run so should they should be pretty good nick. they can be had for $0-$200

Just replace the A340 dude. You'll probably get out of it for 150-300 for the box itself, then fit it yourself, or see how much a workshop will charge do it for you. Converting to manual will hurt $$ wise-$1500++.

Check the the classifieds on this site for one.

At worst, you may have to get a box sent from interstate, but it'll still cost much less than a manual conversion.

If you get stuck, drop me a PM.

These are not cheap because people use them on 3T conversions...

Another vote for replacing the auto. It will by far be the most painless way of adressing the problem.

GZ20s are old enough that pretty much every common box will suit. Swap bellhousing and you can use one off most other engines, eg 7M cressida or mz20, older crown 1UZ, etc...
If you can't find one in Perth, I know where there's a 7MGTE MZ20 auto box floating around that I'm pretty sure will not be used.

I'd like to be the first to say you should source a cheap second hand auto.

Thanks for the link but I'd rather have a manual.
Thread says unknown condition. 120,000km's, bit more and it'll be having problems.

I've thought about it and decided I'd rather have a manual.

How much should I be expecting to pay for the parts needed?

    W58, Flywheel and Clutch
    Bellhousing
    Clutch master and slave cylinder
    Manual ECU ?

I was told instead of getting a clutch master and slave cylinder, I could just use a cable?
As for bellhousing, does it need to be from a 1g?

    Thanks.

No you need a master and slave cyl.

The gearbox at 120000ks is barely run in the a340e's are strong. Replacing the auto FOR FREE is the best option imho, but thats my opinion.
